Mythras uses ORC, OpenQuest uses CC, and Cthulhu Eternal uses OGL ORC, I'm now convinced, exists only because Paizo didn't want to bother with splitting their rules from their setting material and they've gone and diluted the pool with their nonsense

Today I learned that Mythras, OpenQuest, and Cthulhu Eternal, despite all being generic rulesets based on BRP, use three different & incompatible open licenses. What are we //doing//. Why are we still recreating this closed garden shit for SRDs. I know this doesn't matter but it is so annoying

It's not too insane: with the way that skill points get handed out, replacements haven't been frequent enough to justify all the tracking. Everyone ends up in relative parity with each other fairly quickly, and in cases where I really don't have the skill I usually have an unspent control point

It's more (was, past tense) that you read the rules once and then that let you switch between slightly different but generally cross-compatible rules hacks on the fly. Time & dispersal have rendered that no longer really a factor.
