There’s something immediately unsettling about the way Infirmary looks. Cameras sit in strange corners, lenses distort corridors and rooms stretch away into uncomfortable empty spaces, turning an alre...

Hyena is a visually slick but frustratingly shallow erotic thriller whose biggest problem becomes apparent almost immediately: within the first couple of minutes, it’s fairly obvious what is really go...

There have been plenty of films about grind culture and the pressures facing people lower down the career ladder, but Species is interesting because it looks at how little changes once you reach more ...

Oddities is a good old-fashioned horror romp that knows how to keep an audience guessing without disappearing up its own mythology. After best friends Rose and Makenna find themselves on the run and h...

Valley View Motel is a perfectly enjoyable little heist thriller, made considerably more impressive by just how small the production appears to have been. Set in 1977, it follows two small-time crimin...

You Are the Film is a snappy, brilliantly written piece of genre-bending filmmaking that starts with an almost tiny premise and then keeps pulling at it until reality itself begins to come apart. Mako...

There’s something incredibly charming about the Adams family. Their films are fiercely personal, handmade and unmistakably theirs, and you never doubt how much they genuinely love making them. The Glo...

When filmmakers say they are making something inspired by 70s exploitation and creature features, those films should be an influence, not a template. Audience expectations have moved on considerably i...

Chris Smith has created some of my favourite horror films, including Creep and Severance, so Spider Island had a fairly high bar to clear. It doesn’t reach the same standard as those classics, but it ...

Potentially bringing Becky’s story to a close after Becky and The Wrath of Becky, this time our favourite homicidally gifted young woman has grown up, caught the attention of the CIA and been sent to ...

Ghost in the Cell is a crazy mix of prison drama, supernatural horror, action and comedy, complete with mass brawls, spontaneous dance sequences and some incredibly elaborate gore. It sounds like it s...

I love anthology films, especially when the stories build a world between them, and Grind does that brilliantly. Across four stories it turns MLM schemes, food delivery, big-tech content moderation an...

Ithaqua feels like exactly the sort of film the revived Hammer should be making. There are obvious shades of Bone Tomahawk in its mixture of frontier survival story and creature horror, but it never f...

I’ve got a real soft spot for Dark Rift Horror. Their handmade monsters, practical effects and familiar ensemble casts have a scrappy charm that makes their films very easy to root for, and Dead Reset...

There are films influenced by Saw, and then there’s Labyrinth, which feels less like inspiration and more like someone photocopied the franchise until all the interesting bits disappeared. A group of ...

Hungry is perfectly watchable, but it feels like mainstream horror designed for people who don’t really like horror. The setup is strong enough. A group of tourists head into the Louisiana swamplands ...

Weekend at Bernie’s, except the corpse is alive and somehow dumber. For the first twenty minutes, I genuinely hated Drag. The comedy wasn’t landing for me at all, and the sisters played by Lizzy Capla...

The Pitchfork Retreat starts with a strong anthology premise: three competing writers brought together to tell their stories, only for those tales to gradually reveal far more about the people telling...

Ponderosa starts well. The strange relationship at its centre feels unsettling and unpredictable, and for a while it seems like it’s building towards something genuinely interesting. Then it just stop...

Frostbite has the budget and technical competence to be better than something churned out by The Asylum, but frustratingly, it has far less of the charm. The premise is actually pretty solid. A contro...

Imposters is absolutely a film you should go into knowing as little as possible. Jessica Rothe and Charlie Barnett are brilliant as Marie and Paul, a couple already trying to rebuild their relationshi...

Big Baby has the kind of premise that immediately gets your attention: a writer descending into his own personal hell as the characters and horrors he created begin coming to life. There is so much po...

Olivia Wilde has directed an excellent mix of comedy and genuinely poignant relationship drama. Seth Rogen has perfected the sarcastic, down-on-his-luck character with a heart buried somewhere beneath...

I love the original Evil Dead films and their mix of tongue-in-cheek 80s action and crazy undead monsters. The modern films are a different beast: darker, nastier and gloriously depraved. Burn continu...

After the multiverse madness, Spider-Man: Brand New Day wisely dials things back. Rather than chasing spectacle at every opportunity, it delivers a more intimate character study of Peter Parker as he ...

FrightFest Glasgow 2026 film Schedule

Body horror is having a bit of a moment, and Saccharine taps into one of today’s biggest anxieties: our obsession with weight loss. With Ozempic and similar drugs dominating headlines, the film feels ...

I’m always up for a Samara Weaving film, and once again she proves why she’s one of the most exciting actors working today. She has this rare ability to balance genuine vulnerability with an absolute ...

After making a strong first impression in Superman, Milly Alcock gets the chance to lead her own film, and she proves she’s more than capable of carrying the cape. Her Kara Zor-El has a darker edge th...

Obsession starts with a brilliantly simple premise. Bear, a painfully awkward music shop employee, uses a supernatural wish to make his lifelong friend Nikki fall in love with him. Instead of getting ...

Mandalorian & Grogu feels like Star Wars remembering how to simply be fun again. A fast-moving space western packed with brilliant creature work, sharp action, and genuine warmth. The mix of puppetry,...

From the jump, They Will Kill You knows exactly what it is and leans all the way in. This isn’t a film chasing depth or prestige, it’s here to entertain, and it absolutely delivers. Think hyper-stylis...

There’s a solid hook here. How to Make a Killing (2024) leans into a darkly playful premise where death feels almost level-based, jumping from one family member to the next like a morbid video game. E...

A flooded coastal town, a Category 5 hurricane, and sharks swimming through the streets. That’s the pitch, and honestly, that’s the film. Thrash throws logic out the window early and never bothers pic...

Get ready to enter your very own World Dungeon! Play as a familiar face, such as 🧨 Carl, 👑🐈 Donut, 🐊 Florin, 🐐 Prepotente, or build your own unique crawler, complete with a customizable class and race...

Brooklyn 45 should be right up my street. Small cast, one location, séance setup, loads of potential for tension and some properly nasty turns. Instead, it just plods along like it’s got nowhere to be. The problem is simple. The characters are boring. You’re stuck with them the whole time, and there’s nothing about them that makes you care. So when the film leans hard into long conversations about guilt, war, and past relationships, it just feels like noise rather than anything meaningful. It’s clearly going for that slow-burn, dialogue-heavy vibe, but there’s no hook to keep you in it.

Bull drops you straight into a bleak, small-town underworld and keeps things tight from the off. It’s a simple setup. A man returns to settle scores with the people who wronged him. No fluff, no detou...

I Swear tells the real-life story of John Davidson, a Scottish man navigating life with severe Tourette’s in a world that often meets him with confusion rather than compassion. It’s a film rooted in f...

There’s a version of Send Help that absolutely works. You can feel it trying to break through. A nasty, stripped-back survival story with Lord of the Flies chaos and Misery style psychological tension...

Trakt Web: A new, lightweight way to track your favorite movies and TV shows.

Cold Storage is a classic creature-feature setup: a dangerous parasitic fungus escapes containment and starts turning animals and people into grotesque infected monsters. The film never pretends to be...

Whistle (2026) opens with a genuinely creepy hook. A group of teens discover an ancient death whistle that summons the physical embodiment of their future deaths to hunt them down. It’s a strong idea,...

Marty Supreme clearly wants to live in the same chaotic, pressure-cooker world as Good Time and Uncut Gems, and on the surface it has the ingredients. It’s loud, kinetic, visually sharp, and full of m...

The Life of Chuck sneaks up on you. It opens like a riddle, fragments scattered out of order, quietly daring you to trust it. The film drip-feeds clues at just the right pace, never rushing, never spo...

The irony of calling this Oh. What. Fun. when there is nothing fun about it is almost impressive. A privileged family of irritating narcissists gather for Christmas and spend the season wallowing in s...

The Black Phone 2 dials everything up. More blood. More gore. More disturbing imagery. It is less interested in restraint and far more comfortable leaning into full-on nightmare logic, and honestly, t...

Time Travel Is Dangerous is one of those quietly charming British oddities that sneaks up on you. It never tries to be a blockbuster. It sticks to warm humour, great character work and a script that f...
