Thank you, Scott. You’ve got a good one out there, too!

Yes, indeed. I comment in my book about the difficulty unwrapping the MD narrative when you can only watch in a theater (and would need to go watch it again). Home video, of course, makes things easier, as you can rewind, or watch scenes out of order.

Mulholland Drive at 25! Twenty-five years ago today, Mulholland Drive was released in the US. To learn about how and why David Lynch altered the original TV pilot into a feature film, check out my book: Devious Dreams: www.amazon.com/Devious-Drea...

The New York Times ranks Twin Peaks: The Return as the 47th best TV show of the century so far. I knew it wouldn't crack the top 10, but I expected it to be higher. How many of these 100 shows will people be talking about 50 years from now? I wish I could be around to see *that* ranking!

Looks like the authors are serious fans. But I don't see a lot of new material here. The completist in me wants to buy it, the researcher thinks I should save my money. It's a good-looking book, though.

Just saw this at the local comic shop. Not sure there’s anything new in here, but it took me by surprise. Anyone know anything about it?

Umm. Seems coincidental to me. Had they cut to a shot *inside* the car, then I'd buy it.

Doing some research for a new project and stumbled across this comment from Catherine Coulson. Made me feel good about that long-ago magazine.... "You guys are doing a huge service with Wrapped In Plastic. You’ve done a great job and kept the quality up. I love getting the magazine!"

I can tell you with some certainty that is not the costume designer. My source says it was different actors, but Coffey has confirmed they did reshoots. Some mysteries remain.

John Thorne @thornewip.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
Just checked the transcript of my (very reliable) source. He claims it was all different actors in the re-shoot. We'll never know for sure what really happened (maybe a few original scenes did make it into the film?) but a major re-shoot did take place.

No need to be sheepish. I don't think many people knew this. I certainly didn't until a few days ago. (I thought Rabbits was repurposed, too.) I don't know why Lynch reshot it, only that he did. It may have had something to do the cameras he used in the two different projects?
120
John Thorne @thornewip.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
Quite possible. Same with Coffey. Watts was almost certainly not there. Either way, they reshot the scenes.

I know one of the players was a close associate of Lynch's (can't reveal the name right now, as I'm working on a new book). It's *possible* Coffey and Harring reprised their roles, but the credits likely reflect the use of their voices.

A bit of trivia: Did you know that Rabbits, a short film originally made for David Lynch's website, was entirely re-shot for Inland Empire?

Yes, it's great. But not every shot in there is by Lynch. Inspired by him, no doubt (Tim Hunter, Caleb Deschanel). But, yes, it's very cool.

From what I've learned recently, Lynch wanted it to be dark and heavy. It was not an easy film for the actors (or the crew), especially because Lynch had Rammstein playing while he filmed.

Yeah, I think Nolan admires Lynch a great deal. And he's right, Lost Highway is a tough film. I remember the audience reaction when I first saw the film: People were mighty frustrated!

One version of Cooper never made it home. That's the tragedy. (Arguably, the Cooper who accepted who he was did make it home.)

John Thorne @thornewip.bsky.social · 25/07/2026
Too bad this story is getting such a negative spin (but that's what gets you clicks). The *real* story is that Nolan selected Lost Highway and was ultimately complimentary to the film and to Lynch. A difficult fim doesn't mean a bad film.

Lynch had done box sets in the past (Lime Green), so maybe this will be some independent, small-studio thing. I hope its not a rushed job. I do believe he appreciated the Criterion treatment and would have welcomed a Criterion release (a la Kubrick). I bet Criterion *would* have done one eventually.

Frost has explicitly said he was thinking of The Odyssey when making The Return. (And, of course, Cooper travels to Odessa, TX, which certainly emphasizes the connection.)

No doubt. And they have a lack of shame, so even if they see their collateral damage, they don’t care. Still, and I know this sounds awful, I want them to suffer. A quick death robs me of that satisfaction.

I, for one, hope certain politicians live long lives, so that they face legal consequences or personal losses/discomforts (or some dim realization that history will paint them as villians) for the suffering they've inflicted upon others. I long for karmic payback.

Yes, definitley written by Lynch, as confirmed in "Lynch on Lynch: Revised Edition," p. 289.

All good clues, especially 2,3,6,8. Clue 10 seems the most confusing (although if you reinterpret Lynch's clue to "What happened to Aunt Ruth?" then it makes more sense).

Because I'm lazy and choose not to pull my Blu-Ray edition off the shelf, is there anything new to this release? (I'd love to see that TNT interview Lynch did for a broadcast way back when.)

@thornewip.bsky.social returns this week to discuss Sheriff Cable. We talk about his combative nature with Agent Desmond, question how much he truly knew about the fate of Teresa Banks and the drastic changes of his character from “Fire Walk With Me” to “Dale Cooper: My Life, My Tapes”.
