I've reached the point again where I'm coding my own CMS. It's a cycle, last time must've been 10+ years ago though. This time though, it's gonna be the best! Of course. Totally not a project that will end up collecting dust. Anybody else sometimes end up in this cycle?

For the narrow gauge railway lovers. Have a tiny railway with the smallest turntable ever! This is at a sawmill in Deurne, The Netherlands.

A view from a hill looking down on a small narrow gauge railway. Wood is visible around it.

@islandsandtrains.bsky.social Hi. What's the best way to report a bug? When I started the game I got 3 achievements already. I assume the menu is secretly a loaded map and thus it triggered the achievements 😅

I love self-sufficiency & energy generation. I also love traditional Dutch windmills. YouTube has now decided that means I love small wind turbines. I don't. They're horribly inefficient. But there's so many 'inventors' who claim they're amazing without providing numbers it hurts. 😭

ThomasToSpace @thomastospace.bsky.social · 21/05/2025

That's better than expected! Now I hope it's within my lifetime. 😅

Very much enjoying the fact that it looks like you have Eevee ears in this picture. 😂

Next update: windmills now provide 1.5x their power, but only if free of obstructions! With obstructions everywhere, they won't provide any power.

I found out a few weeks ago there was a corgi meetup near us. Their meeting point was near a restaurant with a lovely outside patio. So of course we had lunch there at the exact time of the corgi meetup. Just looking at 20+ corgi's. I had the best day.

That's so good to hear! Is the wobbling from walking not too much to type properly and get work done? And which one do you have?

How do you like the walking pad? Been considering one since I can't stand still at my desk 😅

@cyd.social Any place we could talk? I went into debugging a bit. a[data-testid=\"AppTabBar_Profile_Link\"] doesn't exist for me. I think I might have a new X interface that others don't have yet.

My new #selfhosting blog is up! In this one I setup access to one of my containers from the outside with Caddy! We setup a http server, our domain, SSL, and make it all work smoothly. However... we also go into the dangers of doing this! thomasto.space/self-hosting... #selfhosting #selfhosted

The difference between weather lessons for windmills & watermills is hilarious to me. For windmills you have multiple hours of lessons. For watermills: When the water is frozen, don't run the mill since you'll remove the water below the ice from upstream and ice skaters may die. Simple enough ⛸️

ThomasToSpace @thomastospace.bsky.social · 17/12/2024

My #osm based mill database resulted in the first changes back to #OpenStreetMap ! I found all the windturbines by their tags, and went through them to remove man_made:windmill from them. Went from 7 edits to 363 edits in about half an hour. Would call that a success!

Added a little easter egg. If you open the map and zoom in without moving, you'll end up at the windmill where I volunteer. Next up: Connecting sources like Wikidata, national milldatabases & heritage sets. Getting closer to being ready to make #openstreetmap the best open mill database.

ThomasToSpace @thomastospace.bsky.social · 15/12/2024

Completed the map for my #osm based mill database. I can now easily browse a map of all wind- & watermills and see some basic details. I can also filter on a few things. #windmill #watermill #openstreetmap

This weekend I was at the windmill and there was a ton of wind! So it was milling time. Since it's a post mill, this also means it's almost like standing on a boat. The whole mill will shake!
