In fact, maybe I've found us a ferry activity to round off our next adventure @meerium.bsky.social We'll include some bassoons. To really tie it all together.

Maybe, for my next piece, I should write a wee acoustic number with this AI monstrosity as the lyrics. Just for the craic. It's giving Smashing Pumpkins "Lily" vibes, but for the AI age.

Was just waiting at the bus stop and a white van sped past me blaring Slade's "I Wish It Could Be Christmas" at top volume. Pretty damn weeeeeeeeeird.

Some people are really out there living their lives with un-muted group chats.

3/3 Anyway, I also decided it would be fun to use the bassoon and some other endangered instruments (and some not) to write a short, very thrown together piece to go with it, titled for my made-up conceptual framework Up on Soundcloud just, for the craic! on.soundcloud.com/AWZ0ZpL4Auh5... Enjoy!

2/3 It was actually inspired by a conversation with @meerium.bsky.social on how the bassoon is an endangered instrument (midway between Helsinki and Tallinn on a Long Drink Party Ferry). Whilst imaginary, maybe there's some truth in there? People who decided *not* to play the bassoon: let me know!

1/3 Just had a very-fun-to-write piece published in issue 11 of the Journal of Imaginary Research! Abstract 14: "Diminishing Sounds: A longitudinal study of bassoon decline in contemporary orchestras" journalofimaginaryresearch.home.blog/2026/06/25/j... Massive thanks to @kayguccione.bsky.social!

There is - what I could only refer to as - a troop of about 8-10 year old children marching (dancing) up and down my street right now singing the entirety of the YMCA repeatedly (and badly) at the top of their lungs and it is absolutely *glorious* 😂

This Ship Argo @thisshipargo.bsky.social · 15/06/2026

The dramatic pub reading of it really added something I think. Might've been the drinks though...

010

This Ship Argo @thisshipargo.bsky.social · 14/06/2026

Like I'm fully on board. Might have to be a slightly unsettling instrumental horror soundtrack with spoken word though... Def haven't been thinking about it 😂

I just need to to fuuuuck offfffffffff y'know? Like the most exasperated version of that phrase you can think of. I am *so sick* of seeing my students work come in having been entirely written by it as well. Just fuuuuuuck offfffffffff, AI

010

This Ship Argo @thisshipargo.bsky.social · 12/06/2026

Tempted to do a dramatic reading of it. Maybe I'll turn it into a song. Got any archive footage that will match? 😂

Had a dream last night that Tilda Swinton was leading a militia, trapped me in the children's clothing shop in a massive shopping centre, then bombed the absolute shit out of the whole thing. What did I ever do to you, Tilda? WHAT DID I EVER DO TO YOU‽

Saw a man living his best life this morning; just eating an entire family sized platter of sushi whilst casually sauntering past QUB's Lanyon Building this morning at 7am. Incredible work. No notes.

See also: Christmas "break". One rewritten topic down... And just the two papers, an assignment, a research protocol, a HEA application, a meeting agenda, and some conference organisation work to go. 🤦🏼‍♀️ (@phdcomics.com)

2 panel comic titled summer. The first panel is titled"what most people think academics do all summer" and shows a happy person with their arms up saying "yay no work". The second panel is titled "what most academics actually do" and had the person in the same pose saying "yay! Now I can FINALLY work!".
