Paging @snowden.st what are the optimal outcomes this weekend for our rooting interests and transitive vibes? This is a tricky one, please do not take it as a sign my discipline and commitment to Eck thought is wavering.

A friend discovered—after weeks of me opening posts they share in a group chat only to discover I’m blocked by people I followed—that I was added to the “trolls” list May 11th. My only posts that day mildly pushed back on Aaron Rodericks’ suspension fest and inability to use the site he moderates.
I am added to the Trolls list and get instantly blocked by 2k users lol. A thread by me quoting aaron and asking how bluesky objectively determines what constitutes harassment. He then detached his post from my quote and pointed out that’s it’s weird to get upset about a discourse you yourself are perpetuating. Aaron Rodericks complaining of “coordinated harassment” and “abusive pile-ons” when people made jokes about him liking porn from his work account. I asked why he didn’t disable responses and quote posts on his thread to begin with if he didn’t want people engaging.

Lots of people confused. These guys came out of Heaven to debate Charlie? Charlie’s not in Heaven? Correct! Charlie is burning in the entry pool to hell and has to debate all these guys, God of War style, until he reaches and debates God infinitely, thereby asymptotically merging with the Godhead.
Charlie steaming as he rises from heaven’s moat as his debate powers increase.

Sorry I’m being unfair, Matt cogently argues something far worse than material harm would befall the Big Ten in the event of Michigan losing that necessitated them rigging a second hail mary attempt: uhhh league… uh… bragging rights. (this is what everyone sounds like tn btw)
“And the Big Ten just can’t have that, people.

Can’t have the conference that has won the past three national titles, that has cruised by the SEC in the my-conference-is better-than-yours argument, losing at home to something called Western Michigan.”

“I’m pretty sure we all just witnessed Big Ten officials rig a game for a conference team.” Matt Hayes“Michigan lost to Western Michigan. The game was over. Big Ten officials then decided to add one second to the game clock because, well, none of us really know,” writes well paid USA today sports columnist Matt Hayes

The Chicago Bears Rivalry uniform features a lot of tasteful hand stiching details, is clean, and pulls elements from their deep and rich history. Unfortunately the Detroit Lions can’t do this because the franchise was founded in 2003.

“If you endorse a mild version of social democracy in America, anything goes in response to your heresy—it becomes a libidinal moral jubilee for liberals and conservatives alike, equaled only by how hysterically social mores are reinforced if something “nasty” is said about this state of affairs,” a post by me 21 hours ago

Well this certainly gives me a “vibe”; I would say this shapes my “sentiment” about “current economic conditions,” as well as my “expectations.”
“From 2020 through 2025, the most recent data available, $2.7 trillion in new wealth was created for the top 0.0001% in the U.S., a group of about 250 people, according to an analysis of data from the tracker Realtime Inequality. That is roughly as much wealth as was created for the top 0.0001% in the prior 39 years, adjusted for inflation.” From WSJ: https://www.wsj.com/lifestyle/careers/r360-novus-rich-kid-seminar-5cbb657a

I mean, I see “vibecession” as a term of art being used to make the normative claim that people are “wrong” about economic health all the time, as if the U of M survey asks “are these graphs wrong”? Again, half the questions are “where do you think thing will be in the future.

*Walter voice* Ceteris Paribus, Dude! Ceteris fuckin’ Paribus—you’re conjuring econometrics; you’re giving primacy to a closed, unfalsifiable system, even if it allows limited external inputs! All. Other. Things. Are. Not. Equal. Here, Dude!
Americans are expressing some of the deepest, broadest, and stubbornest economic pessimism ever recorded. They’re doing so even though nearly every American who wants a job has one and the stock market is booming. Things aren’t perfect, and people have plenty of reasons to be disappointed. But I couldn’t come up with a coherent explanation for why people are this down about an economy this good, or why they are so mad right now.

Instead of trying to understand why the American people were right, I began trying to understand why they were wrong.

Always resort to apples and oranges and sneering reductionism when rigorously anticipating any critique or counter-argument would be too hard! Graph unrelated.
Graph depicting precipitous drop in labor share of value post 2020 brief recovery. From the article in DoubleLine:

“Labor’s share of output in the U.S. nonfarm business sector stood at 66.2% in 1960 and remained near 63–64% in 2000. Today it sits at 53.8%, the lowest reading in the series dating back to 1947. The decline spans multiple cycles, monetary regimes, and technological waves. The pandemic briefly interrupted the trajectory, but the series has returned to a level roughly 10 percentage points below where it stood at the turn of the century.

The pandemic lifted labor share sharply before it retraced; the series moved several percentage points higher during 2020–2021 before returning to the low-50% range. Output fell while many firms retained workers and fiscal transfers supported income as wage growth accelerated. Margins compressed, then recovered. The episode sits within the cycle rather than the longer structural trend.

The longer trend is visible in the relationship between productivity and compensation. Output per worker has continued to advance while real compensation has risen more slowly. Over extended periods, that difference compounds and shifts a larger share of output to capital.”

Dear God
The blowback Fetterman has received from Democratic voters has fueled the rumors that he might switch parties. His net approval rating among Pennsylvania Democrats has dropped 108 points since 2023, from plus 68 to minus 40, according to CNN. It’s a massive swing, and Fetterman has had trouble adjusting. Last summer, Fetterman called a rare meeting with senior staff to ruminate about his political future. The presidency still intrigued him (four staffers say he used to openly talk about running for president), but it had been a bruising few months. He floated something more realistic: vice-president on the Democratic Party’s 2028 presidential ticket. “Almost all of us had our jaws on the floor, like, ‘Are you out of your fucking mind? You don’t do your job, you can’t raise any money, and your entire party hates you,’” a person who was in the room says.
