Not necessarily my all-time top nine albums (though four or five of them would be in there), but rather albums that really opened up, changed, and even defined my taste for different periods of my life.

I wonder if one of the actual essays the Cornell rapists were assigned to write will ever get leaked to the public. Because hooboy that would be an all-timer of a day for social media.

The new Resident Evil movie is gnarly. Though I didn’t like the ending—it unfortunately goes full-Substance—the first 90% absolutely rips. Perfectly directed, too. And Austin Abrams has the goods. He’s quickly entered “Will watch him in anything” territory for me.

Does anyone have contacts for an editor at a good outlet that may be accepting pitches for a personal essay about trauma that’s somewhat related to the Cornell situation? If so, please DM me! Thanks!

Just had a great exchange over on FB with a guy I went to college with where he said that publicly posting anti-fraternity sentiment was basically the same thing as when I used to get called a “dirty Jew” in public, and then he clutched his pearls when I called him a fucking moron.

@wmmorrowbooks.bsky.social Why are you folks referring to Sylvester Stallone as an “Academy Award-Winning Icon” when he has never, in fact, won an Academy Award? He’s been nominated three times, but never won.

Random music thought/observation: 2009 was a really bad year for music. Perhaps because 2007, 2008, and 2010 were each all-time-great music years, overflowing with classic albums, 2009 was just the victim of bad luck on the release schedule.

Langley is what went boom in the season two finale of Homeland—a show I watched in real time because I once had cultural cachet

Daniel Joyaux @thirdmanmovies.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Who wants to tell me what the “Langley” part of this even means? And I guess I need to say—I’m not making my “Langley” ignorance known for cultural cachet. I’m making it known to address it. (And also for likes, obvs)

It’s amazing to me how many news outlets can’t seem to figure out that loss of credibility consequences massively outweigh the short-term gain of getting a lot of rage clicks for some hot bullshit.

It’s notable that Christopher Nolan’s last two films have both been about men regretting the crucial role they played in the downfall of civilization. I’m choosing to believe this is Nolan’s attempt to atone for his role in launching the SnyderVerse.

We talk a lot about the importance of voting but in doing so, we romanticize it, and I've come to believe that's a mistake. It's not romantic, it's not glorious, it's not an expression of your ideals or your identity. It's selecting the best outcome for the most people. That's all it is. Do that.
