Dire Straits discography ranked top albums: 1. Communique 2. Dire Straits 3. Making Movies 4. Love Over Gold 5. On Every Street 6. Brothers in Arms Controversial final take but besides money for nothing and walk of life the rest of the album is boring. Communique was the most funky overall.

There are a lot of AI slop videos showing how to do low level scams to make 300-400 dollars a month by using AI to scam. It’s like the oil salesman mixed with a pyramid scheme pulling the curtain back and making the real money off of teaching people how to be their own oil salesman pyramid.

After two months of just attempting a trial run I’m officially partnered on YouTube which is wild to say. I won’t make much money off of it at first but it’s still a cool feeling to have figured it out at least a little.

From an algorithm and audience perspective it is truly wild how different creator growth is between Twitch and YouTube. My dissertation is about Twitch and improv but I’m almost sad I’m not comparing youtube and twitch at this point because of the very different connections they have.

I had two viral YouTube videos this week and now because of this 75% of my YouTube audience is from Thailand. Looks like I’ve given myself a new homework assignment to understand the current Thailand music culture.

Almost ready to try my luck on a top 50 albums for 2005 video. Searched similar strings to see how the algorithm plays and there are some low best ofs. But I don’t see a lot with bigger numbers. We’ll see how it does overall. I think sharing YouTube algorithm details is a fun idea on here.

One of the fun things about being a media and cultural sociologist is attempting to create more of a social media presence. Obviously it’s better for my brand anyways but it’s been fun understanding each platform’s algorithms, seeing what creates growth, studying other’s patterns across all genres.

Jon Fairbanks @thirdmango.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

I'm planning to make a video of the 50 best albums of 2005, are there any albums from 2005 that you think has to be on such a list? Let me know!

I know it’s not much for anyone who actually makes YouTube videos but I had a small video hit almost 2k in 24 hours and watching the stats rise through out the day was a good dopamine rush. I’m not big enough for me to make money off of it but it’s still fun to watch.

Damn this morning had the one two punch of the best rap album of the year Prof’s Good Time Boy and then went into the best metal album of the year Motionless in White’s Decades and even with both of them being so good they’re still not knocking out underscores out of the top spot for 2026.

Jon Fairbanks @thirdmango.bsky.social · 18/07/2026

I started an actual YouTube channel and I have very few views on any videos but I’m such a stats nerd that I still enjoy checking every day to see how the algorithm works on my stuff.

This season of Silo is really bad mostly because so far the season has just been amnesia which is one of the worst tv tropes.

I grew up on 90s alternative rock but I never expected to be as much of a metal head as I’ve become in my 40s. I’m a true metal head now.

I have a redeem which allows people to suggest albums for me to listen to so I’ve now listened to three Taylor Swift albums and it convinced me I’m basic. I like tay tay songs that go fast. I think I just like upbeat music overall. When your favorite song on Red is Holy Ground.

Three months ago I had a string of crazy news back to back which landed me in the hospital. Since then I’ve done a complete overhaul of my life and I’ve officially lost 48 lbs. I still have another 150 to go but this first 48 still feels really good.

For all my Bsky friends who don’t watch wrestling the last time Hulk Hogan appeared in WWE he was there to promote his beer and he was booed so loudly he couldn’t be heard. He eventually just left.

The way Veo 3 is working already for one to two days it shows how AI is going to take over. The ability for spreading misinformation and lies is incredible. A year from now we are going to be cooked.

The amount of times the dems just adopt conservative messaging without even thinking about it is wild. It blows my mind how often liberal media parrot conservative media talking points and this is the perfect answer to that.

Incredible article on the state of music in this current age. So much of the arts industry has become on the artists to breach the new media economy as so much of the industry doesn’t understand the new trends taking over. The audience is also just not able to pay for music in its current form.

Hundreds of Beavers is the best representation of the silent film era and cartoon culture of the early 20th century put into a video game film and slapstick comedy. Truly incredible art and a movie which never feels long and is funny in every moment. Truly impressive.

Most of my reach here is online community and as someone who teaches about social issues I’d say the best advice right now is to reach out to people who feel alone and if you feel alone reach out. This result is demoralizing so remember to help each other stay afloat.
