50 acres for just 50 people a day? I wrote something about why there are so many golf courses in San Francisco - and what else could be done with all that land. sfstandard.com/2026/09/13/s...
sfstandard.com
San Francisco’s golf courses are draining millions — and barely anyone plays on them
The city loses $4.9 million a year subsidizing six sprawling golf courses used by a shrinking number of players. In a housing-starved city, that’s a tough sell.

I watched my neighborhood transform over the last 20 years — and it turned out better than I ever imagined. The west side now has the same opportunity.

Strong recommend this by @thgoetz.bsky.social in the @sfstandard.com on why it's past time for the west side of SF to build its fair share of new housing -- to balance all the new housing built on the east side in the last 20 yrs. As a west side homeowner, agree 100%. sfstandard.com/opinion/2026...

It's widely recognized that the total lack of housing construction on the west side of SF is unsustainable and unfair. Less talked about is the fact that those neighborhoods are missing out on a lot of good stuff! It was great to chat with @thgoetz.bsky.social about a favorite topic:

@thgoetz.bsky.social has worked as both a journalist and an entrepreneur, with his most recent venture being 'Drug Story,' a narrative podcast that covers the world of health one drug at a time.
Headshot of journalist Thomas Goetz with DEPTH PERCEPTION branding and text on the right: “In science and medical journalism, you have to prove your points. I had to learn how to be very selective with the use of data and numbers [in podcasting] because it’s very hard to parse numbers aurally.” —Thomas Goetz, journalist and host of DRUG STORY

Sigh. Rivian's micromobility arm will produce e-bikes -- as well as autonomous bots that cyclists have to maneuver around. Bike lanes are for people. Seems obvious, but cities may need new laws to ensure it's clear.

Also, the micromobility company that spun out of Rivian last year, struck a deal with DoorDash to develop self-driving vehicles.
