Exciting times! I recently received this collection of planes. They're not in the best condition, rust, missing parts even a chipped mouth... But I'm excited to try and get these tools back in working order! #woodworking #handtools #restoration

Top tip: Wax your planes! My current workshop environment is less than ideal to say the least. Yet with a little candle wax, I can take shavings thick and fast without my "workbench" moving anywhere! #woodworking #handtools #diy

Spotted these on Vinted for £8 so picked them up! I don't think the brace will be much good but I'm hoping the auger bits can be cleaned up nicely! Bad buy or have I saved myself a small fortune? #woodworking #handtools

That's great to hear, I have never restored a plane so I'll definitely be a bit nervous. I have read some articles on it and will watch more videos etc.. before getting started. These are from a deceased family member so I want to do right by him!

It was helpful, thank you! I understand planes and sizes, but identifying them from a photo is not a skill I have... Do you think these can be brought back to serviceable condition?

Thanks for your reply! I'm really hoping it is a No.4 and No.4 1/2 and not two 4s! I don't have these yet, but they have been collected for me by a family member. Unfortunately, I don't know when I'll next see them!

My interest is purely educational 😁 I am welcome to the machine if I want it, but it goes against what I am trying to achieve. I also don't want to bring unnecessary risks into a small shop space as you so rightly pointed out!
