We are delighted to announce the winner of this year's Wingate Prize - Amir Tibon for his remarkable *The Gates of Gaza* Congratulations to Amir and his publishers @scribepub.bsky.social @littlebrown.bsky.social and thank you to our partners @jewishliteraryfoundation.co.uk
Winner of the Wingate Prize 2026 - The Gates of Gaza by Amir TibonWe were thrilled with our shortlist this year, but in the end one book was our unanimous choice. Amir Tibon's The Gates of Gaza is a remarkable accomplishment. To write about the devastating events in Israel and Palestine with such humanity, such knowledge of history and such balance would be extraordinary under any circumstances; given the author's situation  — he was himself caught up in the attack of October 7 — it is even more stunning. Tibon's style is lucid and compelling, and one could not hope for a better guide to these challenging and painful times.’

Lublin by Manya Wilkinson (pub. @andotherstories.bsky.social ) is such a worthy winner. It’s a beautiful, funny, poignant short novel told with exquisite control; a prewar Yiddish fable refracted through a postwar lens. A book that we judges all wanted to press on people and say: “Read this!”
