A report assessing barriers that stand in the way of people accessing Oregon’s parks - which was buried by the department - contained this harrowing anecdote. Read our @thewesternedge.bsky.social investigation and subscribe to see more reporting like this: www.thewesternedge.media/p/dei-at-ore...
One LGBTQ group told him a harrowing story: A lesbian couple had been harassed in a state park by another camper, and then a park ranger said they’d received a complaint about a rainbow sticker. “I asked park staff why it wasn’t okay for me to have a rainbow flag,” the person said, “but someone else, the man across the road, could have a Confederate flag flying on the back of his truck. The park staff said, ‘No one complained about the Confederate flag.’ Then told me I had to turn my car around.’

I also gathered OSHA data on injury rates at PDX9, which show the warehouse regularly exceeds the industry average by a significant margin. Amazon disputes using what is known as DART data because it also captures minor injuries. They prefer to only count serious injuries.
A chart of U.S. Department of labor data that shows the DART rate -- an injury metric measure by OSHA -- at the Amazon warehouse in Troutdale, Oregon, is around double that of the industry average between 2019 and 2024.
