The Homelessness and Social Housing Allocation (Wales) Bill was unanimously voted into law yesterday. We were pleased to see cross-party support for these important reforms. This new law is the result of years of united efforts across the sector to make a big shift towards preventing homelessness.

Sian Aldridge, Interim CEO at The Wallich, said: “It is obscene that in 2025, the average life expectancy of someone sleeping rough in Wales is 45 for a man and 43 for a woman. This number has not moved since the 90s.

90 people in Wales died while homeless in 2024. This stark number comes from research by the Museum of Homelessness. In total, 1611 people died while homeless across the UK last year. This includes people sleeping rough, and those in emergency accommodation or insecure settings.
