As we discuss the rapist to positions of power pipeline (president, judge, law enforcement, etc) one thing that I remain grateful for is when I’ve worked remotely I never needed to worry about my physical safety in the workplace. Because those rapists without consequences have jobs too.

Which isn’t to say we need to build a silo and be doomsday preppers, but just as S.F. has the street names in sidewalk stamps so we can find our way if buildings collapse in an earthquake, and water cisterns for fires- those infrastructure choices need to be built in to daily life.

A lot of the development discussions assume the status quo and things will be fine- but as we look at the state of the world the flexibility of assets and their value to everyone in proximity is worth appreciating, understanding, modeling out etc..

Solar and battery storage in good times are affordable and predictable energy. In a blackout it’s keeping your food and medicines safe. In good times museums and gymnasium are cultural institutions in bad times they’re large venues for resource distribution…

More abundant housing in good times is affordability. In bad times it’s having somewhere to go if you’re displaced. Multiple modes of transit are in good times flexibility and choice. In bad times it’s continued mobility despite interruptions and access to shelter and workers…

Both from a climate resilience and socioeconomic resilience we need a lot more flexible assets, additional capacity for mobility and safety, affordable housing so fire fighters and nurses live closer etc

We don’t have enough housing while things are peaceful here- imagine how bad a war, earthquake, mega fire etc would be for the region. We have terrible traffic now, imagine if there was a mass exodus… etc

But if the tech companies who keep warning about existential threats they pose made our region a target we’d be woefully unprotected. Given that we should be a lot more invested in diplomacy than most tech CEOs are.

The Bay Area has many physical signs of WWII including graves, decrepit former military bunkers along coast, the presidio which is now a park but was once a military base… and also signs of fire damage in terms of the architectural styles of different neighborhoods

Like if someone bombed Silicon Valley and we all needed to shelter - we’d be hosed because buses on el Camino and light rail don’t put a layer of earth between you and the threat the way a subway tunnel would.

I think trans women are a threat to sexist men believing we all want to be men. Women can say we like being women, but when someone they see as a man says she’s not that and doesn’t want to be that - it threatens the idea that the best thing one can be is a man.

It sucks. The entire agenda rests on having a scapegoat. Crash the economy and blame immigrants. Cut funding for healthcare then say it’s scientists responsible for you feeling like shit. 34 count felon and rapist in office and say he’s actually protecting women from anyone gender nonconforming.

The post I responded to was regarding the focus of the political media, which unfortunately has had a lot of attention on trans athletes. The covid cautious lesbian bar also doesn’t have to do with gang rape AND also shows where the political commentators have focused their attention THIS week.

My point was not to suggest any trans athletes are a threat - rather that politicians are trying to convince us that trans people existing is a threat while ignoring actual threats like violent crimes.

100%. All people should play sports and learn to work as a team while feeling good in their bodies. Trans athletes deserve the freedom to play just like their peers! Somehow my post escaped my bubble and now some think I have negative thoughts towards trans athletes 🫠

If you get what I was trying to say you know that the point is trans people are not rapists nor a threat to women, rapists are. And most rapists are men who face no accountability. The contrast is on where our political media is already focusing time, attention, and tv ads for the election.

My intent was to point out pretty much every national leader has an opinion on an issue that causes no harm and are silent about very heinous crimes. They have energy to create problems for trans people and all women in the name of protecting girls but won’t actually protect girls from violence.

I really don’t. The assaults were not all committed by white men. Men of all races are capable of sexual violence.

I’m worried about straight men who lack accountability and enable each other to commit violence, not about any person wanting to play sports. If you want to protect women - hold men accountable for their crimes. Men who face no consequences continue their dangerous behaviors.
