Let’s be super clear: Lufthansa isn’t some amazingly great experience, and parts of the Temu Lufthansa experience are *better* than full-fat Lufthansa, as we discovered flying Eurowings earlier this year. But it needs to be honest about what passengers are getting.

Excellent recounting of the increasing bewildering choices you have to make or forced into when booking a "business class" ticket. The LH FRA/MUC outside lounge podium encounters are all too familiar. Dreadful.

This is what I mean! a) people think lounge access is a thing that normally comes with a business class ticket b) *even* if airlines want to change that part of the travel social contract (which I think is a terrible idea, obvs) then missing parts should not be something passengers just "find out"

Okay, we’ll bite, Lufthansa, what’s inside your new economy class amenity kit? For the amount of plastic that’s going to be thrown away, we hope it’s really amazing!

Why is there a weird little 1960s-kitchen-style hatch between the galley and row 1? How is *that* linked to the flight attendant seat that hangs off the side of the back galley, itself brand new and much improved? And why are we, of all outlets, cross about a wheelchair sticker on a lavatory?

The Farnborough Airshow flight line shouldn’t look like this on day 2 either. The order totals for the day shouldn’t be under 100 aircraft — the majority little Embraers. This is Thursday levels of busy, on the Tuesday. Genuinely, we’re concerned about the future of the summer European airshows.

The Farnborough Airshow shouldn’t look like this. We shouldn’t be able to capture the entire range of commercial aircraft on show without a wide-angle lens. An A321XLR. An A350-900, the same we saw at last year’s Le Bourget. An E195-E2. And that’s it for the passenger airliner world.

Lufthansa is upping its ITA stake from 49% to 90%, subject to regulatory approvals, aiming to close in Q1 2027.
Screenshot. Text: Deutsche Lufthansa AG’s stake in ITA Airways is set to increase by 49 percent to 90 percent
Second block of shares to be acquired for 325 million euros
Completion of the majority acquisition expected in the first quarter of 2027
ITA Airways is already firmly integrated into the Lufthansa Group as its fifth network airline in many areas
Frankfurt, 12 May 2026 - The Deutsche Lufthansa AG will exercise its option to acquire a majority stake in ITA Airways in June of this year. This will increase its stake from 41 to 90 percent. The Supervisory Board approved this decision by the Lufthansa Executive Board at its meeting yesterday.

The acquisition of the additional 49 percent stake will take place at a previously agreed purchase price of 325 million euros. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals, primarily from the European Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027. Following this, ITA Airways will be fully integrated into the Lufthansa Group, both organizationally and financially.

Since 17 January 2025, Deutsche Lufthansa AG has held a 41 percent stake in ITA Airways as a minority shareholder. Upon the conclusion of the purchase agreement with the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) in June 2023, an annually recurring option for Deutsche Lufthansa AG to acquire an additional 49 percent stake in ITA Airways was agreed upon. This option is now being exercised along with the accompanying acquisition of a majority stake in the Italian flagship carrier. The seller is the MEF, which will initially continue to hold the remaining 10 percent of the shares in ITA Airways. In 2028, this tranche may also be acquired by Lufthansa.
