A kingfisher didn't design the bullet train alone. It took a kingfisher, an owl, and a penguin to solve three separate problems. We checked the sources. First in a new biomimicry fact-check series 🐦🦉🐧 thetrinitytribe.com/blog/bullet-train-kingfisher-factcheck/

The bullet train and the kingfisher: a true story we keep telling wrong
Everyone tells this story with one bird, one flash of insight, and no receipts. Here is what actually happened, checked against the sources.

The "just refuse AI" advice keeps circulating in small business spaces. Cute in theory. Expensive in practice. Large firms adopt AI at more than 3x the rate of small firms (OECD, 2025). That's not a values gap. It's a resources gap wearing a values costume.

In Oaxaca, a 500-member solar cooking movement is replacing firewood with pure sunlight. Less smoke in homes, fewer trees cut, lower fuel costs for families. Small shifts like this show what climate justice can look like when communities lead the way.

Love this convo. Here's what we keep noticing though: invisible infrastructure. Like, we're all talking about the big drivers... while building solutions that consume 3x the energy they need to. What if the climate crisis and the design crisis are the same crisis—and we fix them together?

Chinese helium blimps 🤝 Chobani wind turbines: proof that the boundary between "futuristic infrastructure" and "accidentally delightful" is razor-thin. What else have we been designing that's both practical and beautifully absurd? #solarpunk #renewableenergy #design

Agree. Tools like Gemini 3 are getting impressive, but managing tasks isn’t the same as making decisions. Automating schedules is easy. Understanding why a choice feels right or wrong is still a human skill, especially in design and development.

Some days don’t go as planned, and that’s okay. I just scroll through our garden photos and remember how much can change in a few months with a little patience. If you’re having one of those days, just remember - tomorrow’s Tuesday. And honestly, Tuesdays tend to treat us better than Mondays do.
A side-by-side photo collage showing the transformation of a backyard garden.
The first image, labeled “Before,” shows bare soil with a few small plants in pots lined up along the left side and a compost bin in the background.
The second image, labeled “Now!,” shows the same space filled with green plants, including rows of vegetables such as onions and herbs growing in neat beds.
The third image shows a wider view of the yard with lush green grass, pruned trees, and several white crates filled with seedlings and pots prepared for planting.

People keep mixing it up. Solarpunk isn’t about rejecting tech, it’s about balance. If AI helps us waste less and gives people more time to live, great. But if it burns energy and replaces care with profit, that’s not solarpunk - that’s just business as usual.
