When prices rise because *demand* is hot, wages usually follow. When prices rise because tariffs raise costs -- a *supply* shock -- there’s no reason paychecks catch up. That’s why tariff inflation hurts a whole heckuva lot more. It's a permanent reduction in living standards.

BOOM. The federal appeals court rules Trump's tariffs illegal, because they are. There's no national emergency, and so the power to tariff a country rests with Congress. Trump admin has lost at every stage of the process, but stay tuned for the Supremes to chime in.

If non-farm payrolls data were severely distorted, Wall Street wouldn't react to them. But in fact, markets respond to them more than any other indicator. So either EJ Antoni is smarter than all of Wall Street, or he's wrong. All data are imperfect. Wall St believes these are the least imperfect.

Inflation expectations play a central in determining inflation, so you can get a virtuous cycle where low inflation expectations create low inflation, just as you can get a vicious cycle. Central bank independence can help lock in the virtuous cycle, so it's all gain, no pain.

I haven’t had time to research it yet, but I recall that IRA contributions generally require taxable income. Would be interesting to know whether a tipped employee who would be exempt under the proposed tax legislation, would be affected in their ability to make contributions to an IRA.
