Listening, really listening, means being prepared to see and hear things based on other's experiences, from other perspectives, that may challenge our preconceptions, maybe even disturb our sense of identity. That's what can make it feel so uncomfortable. And so very important.

Ireland has lost one of its greatest voices in the passing of the poet Michael Longley. This beautiful handwritten copy of his poem, Ceasefire, hung on the walls of Mediation NI when I was a board member, offering a powerful focus for the work of peace building and reconciliation.
