Until 5-6 years ago, all this was an incredibly species-rich wetland, that *never* dried out, even in droughts. Then the owner put in a network of large drainage pipes, directing water into the adjacent river and eliminating a whole ecosystem. But the story gets even far more insane...

It's now extremely hard for Irish people to conceive what a wild tree even looks like, with mostly only domesticated, tamed versions remaining. This rainforest holly gives an idea. Rewilding is how we allow not only wild trees back, but the entire ecosystems of which they're meant to be a part.

I firmly believe if artists hang on tight, this crap technology fad will run its course. I've already cut facebook, instagram, and most of YouTube from my online diet as it is just wall to wall AI dross. Consumers of art crave the emotional connection to other humans, not a machine.

Restoring ecosystems doesn't only reverse nature loss, it's THE most powerful ally we could hope for against both climate collapse itself, and its consequences. As a further plus, it makes life SO much more beautiful!! Rewilding should be a global priority 🌍

A village of the dead – a cluster of unusual 19th century burial vaults at St. Senan's Graveyard in the Shannon Estuary of County Clare. Grassy turf has grown over the top of many of the vaults, making them look a little like a village of thatched cottages. #Ireland #SpéirGhorm
