This stack is the entries in the Braille Creative Writing Contest for children and youth. I’ve been asked to be this year’s judge, and am very much looking forward to encouraging young disabled writers. If you’ll excuse me, I have some reading to do... #DisabledWriters www.cnib.ca/en/about-con...

Happy summer solstice! How did you spend the longest day of the year? (if in the northern hemisphere)

Sometimes, ya gotta mess with people. I need these switches on my wheelchair.
I installed cockpitt switches in my car that don't do anything. Say "buckle up" and then drive like grandma.

How many "useable hours" do you have in a day? Another day, I probably have 5. For the past several months, it's been more like two. #ChronicIllness
Usable hours are the time you have to do errands, work, etc. Able-bodied people usually have up to 10 hours a day . The original post mentioned having 4 usable hours a day with plenty of rest time in between.

This is wonderful!
My childhood family friends trained seeing eye dogs and their adopted want to failed the training due to insubordination — he learned at times but that them whenever he felt like it. So they just had a lab who'd opened the garage door and turn lights on and off at random. Comment: my wife has a son on this earth for adaptable dogs that have failed out of service dog training for one reason or another. The reasons are incredible. One dog failed because he was afraid of statues

IT'S HEEEEERE!! Welcome to spring, my friends! As of 10:46AM ET, we are in a new and delightful season. There might still be snow on the ground, and you need a coat, but it's coming. I promise. #SpringCountdown2026
I'm sitting on a path on a beach in my power wheelchair, arms outstretched and a huge grin on my face. Happy to be on a beach for the first time in decades

Two more days! I can't wait to go back to all the wonderful parks in Toronto. Like Tommy Thompson Park, which has the best view of Lake Ontario. Like every other park, it isn't cleared of snow all winter. Because apparently, disabled people don't enjoy winter parkland? #SpringCountdown2026

For the first time ever, I saw the Leafs play live and in person! Thank you so much to @thestar.com for the surprise subscriber gift of watching the game from the Star box. Still buzzing from the magic of it. #hockey

The stories my sister and I could tell… About spring (in 5 days!), summer, and all the other seasons in between. As someone who is immunosuppressed, seeing people becomes a lot easier when we can do it outside. It's one of the reasons I'm so looking forward to spring. #SpringCountdown2026

One of the sure signs that spring is here is when the cherry blossoms pop in Toronto. This photo is from last year when, although they popped, it felt decidedly wintery. But still, cherry blossoms always make me happy. #SpringCountdown2026

Interesting things happen when you leave the house. Leaving the house is easier in the spring. And there are only 7 days left until it's here! #SpringCountdown2026

We were on the Islands, photographing swallows diving low over a lawn. "Umm... my lpve?" he said. I turned around to see a MASSIVE storm rushing over the lake, headed straight for us. Invigorating, that was. 11 days til Spring! #SpringCountdown2026

I can't wait to get back on the Toronto Island ferry again! They are from the fifties, probably on their last legs, but there is something so special and cozy about them. What do you look forward to about spring? (12 days left!) #SpringCountdown2026

Only 2 weeks left! This was my first-ever author photo, in which I'd forgotten that my glasses have transition lenses and turn dark outside. Could I see the photographer taking this photo? No, she was a blur. 😄 #SpringCountdown2026

Spring and summer are the seasons of festivals, which for me means that it's the seasons of butts (here, I'm seen sort of watching the Toronto Pride parade). But it's still more fun than January. 15 days until spring! #SpringCountdown2026
Photo of me sitting in my wheelchair urrounded by multiple people's butts and legs, so close to touching my wheelchair. Someone stands in front of me, blocking the view

Only 16 days left until spring, the season in which I follow waterfowl around and, with a bit of luck, interact with them (photo 1 shows me saying hi to a teenage duck and it mistaking my fingers for French fries). #SpringCountdown2026
anig out over I'm leaning out over the side of my wheelchair, my hand down by the duck, which is nibbling my fingerI'm sitting in the grass with my camera, laughing like a hyena after the duck nibbled my fingerI am sitting in front of the small bridge , and attempting to direct a duck to move to the side. It's right in front of me.

Trying to think of #RheumatoidArthritis topics for my next few columns. What are you struggling with? Anyone out these facing down retirement and/or life after 60 worrying about doing it with RA? What do you want to read about? What's missing?

My #SpringCountdown2026 has started (perhaps a day late?). What better way to begin that with a lovely cow named Buttercup licking my feet.
I'm sitting in my power wheelchair, dressed from somewhere, and sticking out my foot. A Jersey cow named Buttercup is licking the top of my foot.

No one thinks this messing with time is a good idea, least of all pets on a feeding schedule.

If you're happy and you know it, overthink.

Beautiful long weekend in Canada. I've spent it filling my creative well so I can show up bright-eyed and bushytailed to the desk tomorrow. Which is also part of the long weekend, but I can feel the #writing itch getting ready.

Right. Let me answer my own question about the frosting of the day. This is the Canadian year:
Canadian seasons, such as Fool's Spring and Hell's Front Porch. We are currently between Third Winter and The Pollening.
