A little understood (or acknowledged) but massive problem for anyone pinning their hopes on some kind of left-wing Israeli youth making their country sane is that young Israelis are disproportionately right-wing. It’s been this way basically the entire 21st century

It also did something that I feel like a lot of adaptations of John Stewart struggle with: Giving him a unique place amongst The Lanterns that isn't just "the responsible one" or "the military one". Very excited to see how this bleeds into versions of him down the road

One thing I find so distressing about the box office failure of Forgotten Island is that prior animated flops like Iron Giant was that they could find a second life on video. But in the streaming glut, the chances of this amazing film into obscurity are high

Writing "wisdom" I hate: WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW. This is the worst advice ever. It would be better if it was KNOW MORE SO YOU CAN WRITE ABOUT IT. Every good writer I know is constantly researching and getting new information and asking experts. It's a terrible bit of advice!

kudos to macklemore here for —right off the bat— the perspective and acknowledgment of who the real victims are

I'm not sure how to start this. So I'm going to speak from the heart and share the truth. Ed Sheeran and his team have made the decision to remove me from The Loop tour.

But before I get into it, I want to say something that should be obvious. In this moment I think it matters. I am not a victim. Ed Sheeran is not a victim. Pink is not a victim. We have careers, money, opportunities, safety and audiences around the world. Whatever consequences any of us face for what we say, we get to go home to our families.

The victims are the Palestinian people. The men, women and children who have been killed, starved, displaced and forced to live through unimaginable violence. More than 20,000 children have been killed in Gaza alone. People are being killed today, and people will be killed tomorrow. I want to make sure that as I tell this story, we don't lose sight of that.

*incredibly ugly wheezing sound* Jee-sus christ theplaylist.net/paul-schrade...

But speaking this weekend with The Playlist in Venice following the premiere of “The Basics of Philosophy,” Schrader offered a much more revealing explanation for how “Three Guns At Dawn” reached that point.

“I had originally written it about three Black brothers, all of whom are bad guys: a corrupt cop, a drug dealer, and a sexual criminal,” Schrader explained. “And they were all trying to kill each other. And Antoine Fuqua was going to produce it.”

According to Schrader, he and Fuqua then approached actors with the project and ran into a fundamental problem.

“We sent it out to actors, and no Black actors wanted to play in a movie where there are no good Black people,” he said. “And it sort of died. But then AI came along, and I didn’t need Black actors.”
