If i had infinite time and money and body capacity, I would be doing all the art I want. Oracle deck. Book with the deck. Resident Evil doujinshi. Second, different themed oracle deck. Giant oil paintings. Romance novel covers. Actual written romance novel. Like 20 zines. I want to do it all 🫠

I'm trying to do things that are much more ambitious than my last works and that I am only about 50% sure I can pull off, which I think is kind of the thing I enjoy doing most, so unfortunately I'm Locked In

I thought I was going to sit down and relax on the computer so I went into a room without my tablet but I've just been using the touchpad on my laptop to keep messing with the composition of this sketch

little moment of joy today troubleshooting prints with a very nice person in customer service where we were messing with the colors to try to get the holographic foil to show up right and both of us were trying so hard not to say "haha hell yeah" and be kind and professional but the energy was Felt

genuinely part of my process for a project combining art and writing is that I have to dig until I find something deep that hurts and get a little choked up to really write about, like I have to find the real substance before I go, and I found it today during freewriting so I guess that's good

I've made a helpful graphic of what is in the Lubanko Tarot! A lot of folks wanted to know what the cards were like all laid out, so I made a graphic with all of the paintings, plus some book and card details! Also updated the website with more deck pictures and reviews. www.emilylubanko.com#/tarot/
Lubanko Tarot image that shows what the deck is comprised of: the box art, the 244-pg full-color guidebook, 80 cards with borderless art and black edges, and fully-illustrated cards – no pips, all full narrative illustrations for coherent and rich readings. You can also see the design on the back of the cardsAtmospheric image of the deck box and some cards scattered about it. This is from the Llewellyn order page!

The theme of this move and re-setting up of my life has unfortunately been, “what do you mean something that I bought over a decade ago doesn’t work anymore?”

I take for granted how much time I spent reading/studying tarot until I try to learn another system in the same space and then it's like ah, right, [muffled sound of 20+ years of work and experience in the distance], that's not just gonna be 1-to-1 there for everything in the same genre oops

Years and years ago, a friend gave me a book about the Decans and the Minor Arcana, and it made my head spin. Well, now I'm making an Oracle deck and the joke is on me, I'm In It, I'm sorry to everyone

Do I know any artists who do beautiful wall hangings/tapestries? Particularly narrower width and long length? Would love recommendations for wall hangings by indie artists (NO AI).

Speaking of luxuries: for the first time in 8 years, I was just able to turn the heat on in my apartment myself. Because the landlord doesn't control the heat in this apartment. Because I can control my own thermostat. I don't have to beg to get heat anymore. EIGHT YEARS. FREE FOR NOW.

sometimes I go into my mind where I imagine a future with increasing luxuries, and it usually goes: 1) an armchair that I can sit and read in 2) an apartment. living space that has space for that armchair-- a living room that could fit that AND a couch 4) Ultimate Luxury Mode: a risograph machine

The wonderful Rachel Pollack, speaking beautiful truth. From Pollack's essay "The Transsexual Book of The Dead: Osiris and the Trance Man" in the book/collection "The Phallus Palace: Female to Male Transsexuals"- edited by Dean Kotula (2002).
From "The Transsexual Book of The Dead: Osiris and the Trance Man" by Rachel Pollack: "Nut, Goddess of the Night Sky and wife of Ra, God of the Sun, begins an affair with Geb, God of the Earth. The gods break the rules, especially sexual restrictions, for how else can they make something new in the world? Transexual people learn this lesson early and then teach it to others so they may better navigate their impossible lives."

I'm trying to remember that this is what it feels like to make big projects where everything has to make sense and be connected. This is an image from 2016 when I was working on my (now finished) tarot deck, and what it had to look like to keep things consistent and talking to each other.
Old image from 2016 of a lot of different sketches of the Lubanko Tarot deck, some in color, some in black and white, some very rough, and a few finished paintings.

some friends showed me Moonstruck last night and what the hell I loved that, insane movie. Before turning it on, my friend advised, “This movie makes way more sense if you realize it is an opera, from plot points to how the characters interact.” HE WAS RIGHT! I love opera so this worked for me.

Tarot comrades: if there's no named artist on the deck, it's AI. If there's no named artist and it's NOT AI? Then they'd better name the artist. And as a bonus, I'd like to see what their work looked like before 2022 🙂
