Plenty of activity out on the Trail today: huge bumblebees, butterflies, a patch of very early bluebells, a horse in a smart new coat and so many lambs. Please keep your dogs on a lead and under control when passing through their nursery fields. Thank you!

What’s to spot along the Trail in March? Majestic trees awaking from their winter slumber, bouncing lambs, colourful cottages and tiny path-side flowers. #RidgewayNationalTrail

“Is that Ivinghoe Beacon over there?” There are lots of expedition preparations on the Trail today: Yorkshire 3 Peaks, the Camino, Mount Kilimanjaro & St James’ Way. We always give walkers’ information about what’s around them, those Chiltern Hills can be confusing: “That’s Bledlow, above Chinnor.”

Named after their hair-like appearance, hoar frost looked so delicate in the intense cold today along the Trail. The word ‘hoar’ comes from old English and refers to the old age appearance of the frost: the way the ice crystals form makes it look like white hair or a beard.

Each section of the Trail offers new natural wonders to enjoy: the Ridgeway itself as it traverses the rolling Chiltern Hills and local landmarks mark out distinctive places. #NationalTrails #UKHiking #SlowTravel #TheRidgeway
Looking towards Bledlow and a Chilterns landscape of undulating, or rolling hills and the Ridge Way the Trail traverses. Coombe Hill with its distinctive monument and Wendover Woods in the distance. A group begins the steep ascent along Bacombe Hole nearing Ivinghoe Beacon. The wide track though farmland and Pitstone Hill.

Our first post to say ‘hello’ and to give a visual flavour of the woodland landscape in the Chilterns Hills between Ivinghoe Beacon and Goring.
Some stretches are bridleway, others along footpaths. Along the Trail at Nuffield in OxfordshireOur users’ say that the Trail is well signed and easy to navigate So many amazing views to enjoy, or to taking time to savour it all.
