Been on an e-bike for first time. Initially it was a bit of fun and then I arrived at the mother of all hills. If I’d been on my bike I wouldn’t have made it past the first quarter. Lovely bike ride through olive groves vineyards and orchards.

I bought a tumbling tom tomato plant this year and it brought us a lot of joy. This year I’m going to try growing micro dwarf tomatoes from seed as it’s something I want to get good and learn about. I’m not great at small talk but I’m good at talking about plants and gardening.

I watched ‘Good Will Hunting’ again last night and Sean’s analysis of Will was similar to how I feel about AI. Yes it can solve mathematical equations, but when asked about love it can only give me stuff from books. It doesn’t know how anything really feels. That’s tacit knowledge, life experience.

I’m using Duck Duck Go, I click on a news item and just the page asking if I want to subscribe has 10 trackers on it that Duck Duck Go has blocked. Privacy is a human right, it’s in the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. I’m happy to pay for subscriptions but not to lose a human right.

Going to the cinema for the 2nd time in a week. I’ve been waiting for years for Coyote vs Acme. One of my favourite memories with my Dad was waiting for my Mum who’d gone shopping so we were watching a roadrunner cartoon through Curry’s window and it made us laugh even without the sound.

When most of us can see the billionaires are drunk on power, impacting politics and pushing propaganda at a rate of knots, I wonder what will be the thing that makes a change. History can only tell us so much. I suspect those in power gate keep the knowledge of how they are overthrown.

Listening to ‘This Cultural Life’ and John Wilson surprised at how moved Juliet Binoche is when she recalls important moments in her life or when she explains what it is to act. I think listening to her talk about what connects us to a performance is one of the most profound explanations I’ve heard.

Just heard the ‘Rest is Entertainment’ ep where they talk about Dolly Parton. It was interesting to hear Richard say she wasn’t an angel and then didn’t qualify it with some sort of scandal. It sounded strange, like a clunky edit point. Also, I’m starting to wonder if she was actually an angel.

If you want top notch AI you need excellent data. Privacy is a human right. It is written in the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. So if you want the best AI ever you will have to sacrifice a human right for it. If you want AI to spot cancers it will need all the NHS data. Is it worth it?

I’m sad that Dolly Parton has died but I’m so grateful she has left an amazing legacy. The amount of love she gave out to the world through books and charitable donations. My Covid vaccine in the UK was partly down to Dolly and friends (in the UK) with kids receive books from her each month.

I am sad to hear that unvaccinated people have died. Why? Because I think the anti vax rhetoric has been allowed to spiral, not just in the US but also in the UK. I don’t think anti vaxxers are idiots, because we know propaganda is dangerous, that’s why we had laws against it.

Had a brilliant immersive experience at the Edinburgh Fringe today. It only lasted 15-20 mins and yet my partner and I have been talking about on and off all day since it happened this afternoon. That’s what I love about the Fringe, when something moves you or captures your imagination. It’s magical

When I was a kid photocopies weren’t great. So when I was given an IQ test, there was a question with three white sheep and one black asking: Which is the odd one out? However one of the white sheep appeared to have a leg missing. So what should I choose? Racism of ableism? I struggle to answer.

When I first started visiting Copenhagen, the prices were shockingly high. Everything was about 1/3 more expensive. Now I look at the prices in IKEA Copenhagen in comparison to IKEA UK and wish it were that cheap in the UK. Everything is soooo expensive today.
