Getting a second and fifth for Jurgens and a seventh, feels a very Howie trade given the drop off Jurgens has had. I am not mad at this at all.

I will go very sensible post half term (we’re off away so what’s the point now?) until the end of November for similar reasons. I don’t think I could last a whole summer mind. I’ve already started sizing up the Christmas treats in the supermarket looking for offers to squirrel away.

Being middle aged, I do watch what I eat these days. Treats are limited. A lot of things are bland and boring. As it’s proper autumn now, I’ve just treated myself to a mocha and a couple of Borders biscuits, and I don’t think I’ve been this happy in a long time.

Just realised we’re not playing Corby but Boston. 😂

He scores just as Nuneaton equalise at home to Corby. That’s a decent sixty seconds for me.

Fancy an Amazon Prime Day deal? Dead Line and Parallel Execution are half price on Kindle today and tomorrow.

Job done in the end and easily could have been more. Good to see Scotland play on the front foot so much. A wee bit more clinical and we’re grand.

Ben Bruce @therealbenbruce.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Mad. I thought the first one was more of a penalty.

000

Ben Bruce @therealbenbruce.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

The chances Scotland have had… I’m trying not to fear it, but there feels a certain inevitability about what might happen here.

Join me on Monday over on the UK Crime Book Club where I'll be talking with the author Mark Ezra about his novels, including his latest thriller, A Nest of Wasps.

I do the newsletter because I genuinely want to help authors find their market. But there are some lines I won't cross. AI is one of them. It's theft. I can't and won't platform you if you choose that side. #CrimeFiction

I write the monthly newsletter for the UKCBC - @ukcrimebookclub.bsky.social I've just had to reject a submission because they've used an AI cover. I don't ever like to turn down an author, that's not what I'm about...

So whilst I think the club should be punished severely so, I feel for the fans who will suffer, who know their club did wrong & whose anger is directed at those who betrayed their dreams & the authorities who sat back & let owners do what they wanted because it made the league money. #ManchesterCity

To say to everyone “this is what happens when owners are left unchecked.” To mandate fan ownership. It wouldn’t be a perfect solution, but it would add so many extra layers of accountability and it only ever needs one conscience to stop this sort of shit…

100

Ben Bruce @therealbenbruce.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

The only true way for clubs to be run is true fan representation. It’s the greatest antidote to this sort of bollox. And what’s happening in different forms at numerous other clubs. The football authorities have a real chance here to draw a line in the sand…

100

Ben Bruce @therealbenbruce.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

But you have to have a distance from those at the top. I’ve always maintained that those who want to run football clubs are either insane or crooks. My experience has not changed that…

100

Ben Bruce @therealbenbruce.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

Not the ones who are still buying the club line. That sort of blindness is what gets football clubs into these places. The love you have for your team is something that’s hard to explain. It’s irrational. It’s all consuming. It’s incredible highs and awful lows. It’s somehow worth it…

100

Ben Bruce @therealbenbruce.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

As a Nuneaton fan I’ve a lot of experience of crooked owners of football clubs who think they’re capable of beating the rules. More than most I’d wager. So despite my Utd leanings, I’ve a lot of sympathy for those City fans who are suffering because of this.

I love a round number, so thrilled to hit 400 reviews for The Regulators, and it's still sitting pretty at 4.2 stars on Amazon, which basically means I'm not totally shit. Link below if you want to find out for yourself.

Blokes spend far too much time hurting and either not knowing how to deal with it or letting the pain of that hurt crush them. You're never alone in that situation lads. Honestly. Find someone to reach out to. You might surprise yourself. But please, don't give up. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/footba...

Frustrating again to hear pundits & commentators not know the rules, twice in quick succession. 1st classing a half time change as a sub window. It’s not. Secondly calling for Spurs to try and play offside from a goal kick. You can’t be offside from a goal kick. People on TV should know these rules.

It’s like all the things we Oasis fans have been saying for the last 30 years have been universally accepted now as fact by the whole world. Just a brilliant doc about a brilliant moment from a brilliant band.

Ben Bruce @therealbenbruce.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

Fuck me. I’ve cried a lot of times in the cinema this year. The Oasis doc is just phenomenal. Pure elation. Took me right back to those moments last summer.
