at least in my circumstance i trust my colleagues are operating in good faith, so it's usually "hey, i understand you're working in circumstances where you're having to offload this domain to the robot, please help me understand what you care about versus what you're trying to do, so i engage right"

how often do you find yourself talking to coworkers about... well, rude usage of these tools? those kinds of conversations are afaik basically private by default, but i certainly feel like relatively few of us are actually having them or giving that feedback

i guess. the logical conclusion here though is "someone should fork wine and have claude go wild on implementation parity" though, which i don't think anyone intends to argue for?

iximeow @there.is.no.aarch64.mov · 01/09/2026
you realize those patches are also entirely vibed, as are the reviews, right

yeah i have also been doing oss for a minute. llms definitely are *a change* in the costs in that i have personally experienced people telling me that they don't need to talk to me anymore because claude can give them libraries just as good as anything i could do, "the opportunities are incredible"

oh, yeah, i hadn't looked at the forums much because i clicked a bit and got a bunch of ads and bounced.. i had not seen "clean-room" there and eugh yeah i dunno about that
010
iximeow @there.is.no.aarch64.mov · 01/09/2026
what i meant is that you could *definitely not* claim that the d2d implementation here is clean-room, whereas that is the bar for wine, right. "wine would never accept this, but my users will" mixes developers and users? Rich is exposed to the possible risk wine devs don't want, llm policy is diff

iximeow @there.is.no.aarch64.mov · 01/09/2026
this is the kind of thing for example i think would be interesting to do! but i also could not do it because i've seen leaked Windows source in my life and i also cannot contribute to the project. it sucks, but i think it's understandable for them too.
030
iximeow @there.is.no.aarch64.mov · 01/09/2026
wine could *not* accept this work because they are more cautious about the clean-room nature, so anything in wine must be the (much more expensive) "someone goes and clean-room REs it". and no one has, and no one is putting up the money, so that clearly isn't happening any time soon
150
iximeow @there.is.no.aarch64.mov · 01/09/2026
it's weird, i agree. but also i think there are a few reasons that this *couldn't* be in wine as-is. if wine had this amount of d2d support behind ifdefs, at the very least it would probably need to be rebuilt and packaged with paint dot net, which is not impossible but also weird. more importantly,

i mean... "EXTREMELY EXPERIMENTAL" is in the first post here. i'm also really uncomfortable about "coordinating with them is hard and i can do it in three weeks and tokens" as a future OSS modality, but i don't think this is being overpromised for what it is
