"i wonder where saturn is right now" "oh, it's there"
a greyscale picture of space. there is a bright X at the bottom left with an oblog smudge of light. that is saturn and a few moons around it.

the partial-but-most-of-it lunar eclipse from today. the moon is a deep crimson with the top a bright widget peeking out from the earth's shadow. at the bottom of the moon is a silhouette of an airplane, with a bright red widget on the tail and two clear wing lights.

a screenshot of some source code.

"dumpbin knows about fstpnce as fstp1, but masm does not. since this is an undocumented instruction anyway, decode it ourselves..", followed by a match arm translating from some instruction bytes to an "fstpnce st(3), st(0)".

pointed my camera up and this was out there
a narrow slice of sky, all grey from a thin smear of cloud across the frame. the sun is a bright splotch to the left, and darker clouds line the bottom of the frame varying from a bluish(!?) to outright dark grey. there are some rays of shadow cast from the clouds out away from the sun. in the middle of the frame is a bird going out towards the distance.

they're right in the center, and i had to really mess with the light curve because they're totally drowned out by en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tau_Sco... over on the right there
a less noisy and much wider angle spot of sky. a bright star is clearly drowning out the image, reflecting off of parts of the imaging train and casting shadows on the sensor. it's a very weird image. somewhere in the center is a very faint grey non-smeared speck.

finally stapled together some comet pictures
c/2025 A6 (Lemmon), the comet that recently passed by. the comet itself is a bright spot at the lower right, with a greenish glow about it. there's a prominent tail through to the upper left of the image, a diffuse reddish-grey smear with slightly brighter blueish veins. stars are visible across the frame as splotches of red, green, and blue from the individual channels that were composed for this image.

fun fact: on at least zen 2 you can hide PCLMULQDQ support by clearing bit 33 in MSR c0011004. but that doesn't disable the instruction itself n_n
a gdb invocation single-stepping through a program. it queries cpuid, shows that leaf 1 ecx reports that pclmulqdq is not supported, then boldly executes it anyway. it runs fine.

exact text does not transcribe well probably:

> gdb --batch-silent --command dbgscript -q --args taskset -ac 4 ./pclmulqdq
Function "_start" not defined.
   0x401010 <_start>: mov $0x1,%eax

# cpuid leaf: 0x1
   0x40101a <_start+10>: cpuid
# leaf 1 ecx: 0x7ed83209
# - bit 2 (pclmulqdq): 0

this is what llvm-produced code looks like (TODOs are from me)
a disassembly of some hexagon code. at most offsets there are instruction bundles with multiple instructions, often ending in a predicated jump or other predicated operation. there are a few single-instruction bundles in here but not many. there are "TODO: error; unconsumed extender" littered in between the lines.

sometimes you realize you are looking at a website operated by the united states government in 2025, so maybe you shouldn't trust what you're looking at. then you compare with an old version from 2024, only to find a shoddy deletion of "Workforce Diversity and Outreach". behold:
a screenshot of a table from report.nih.gov outlining research/disease areas and dollars (in millions) spent over years 2016-2024/2025 estimate. the table is scrolled to the bottom, the last four rows are Women's Health, Wound Healing and Care, Youth Violence, and Youth Violence Prevention.the same table as before, but an old copy from a 2024 version of this site. the headers are slightly misaligned but the substance of the table is almost the same except that the fourth row from the bottom is "Workforce Diversity and Outreach", right between Women's Health and Wound Healing and Care.

hi there. did you know that incredibly luminous objects that are incredibly distant do not appear to be incredibly luminous compared to nearby objects such as local stars? what do you believe would be proof of intense radiation? either way, did you consider looking this up at all? let me help:
an image i got from the second result googling "Twin Quasar". a more exposed and mildly more colorful view of the field that Emily pictured above. it's also rotated almost 180 degrees from Emily's pictures. there is a circle around the twin quasar, and a few bright stars around it that all line up very obviously with the stars in Emily's closer crop of the region around the twin quasar.

ya ok this travel was worth it
the solar eclipse from april 8 2024. the sun is fully occluded by the moon, but the corona is still almost blindingly bright around the moon. wisps of plasma from the sun's corona radiate out in irregular lines around the sun. a few stars are visible around the sun as specks; two close to it on the left, and two further to the right of the field of view.

the moon itself is very dimly illuminated from earthshine, just enough to see large surface features but dim enough it could be missed at a passing glance.

a perf report of something called "capstone differential", with some functions at the top like AArch64_getInstruction and cs_disasm_iter. AArch64_getInstruction is 40.19% of runtime, while yaxpeax-arm's decode_into is 0.39% of runtime about 20 functions down.

between the two are many functions related to writing strings, malloc, realloc, string searching, text parsing, nothing obviously related to instruction disassembly.
