would jokes about 'Peggers still work in this context? anyway, unless it involves illegal brooms, curling rivalries really don't get that heated

Finally, I'm woefully bad at figuring out how much force to use, unless I'm trying to knock out a single stone and can just go full bore. Otherwise I'm as likely to not make it across the far hog line as I am overshoot (make it into the house is less likely).

Had my intro to curling class and it was so much fun, definitely found a new hobby. It was way more physically demanding than I realized, particularly in muscle areas my physical therapy addresses (is this good?).

this joke involves translation from French, references to both experimental & garage rock, and medicine. College me would be so proud.

Got my tickets for Wildwood, only a month early. At a McMenamin's for extra Portlanditude. Thank you to all the folks who moved things ever so slightly for months on end to make this film happen.
Process image from the making of Wildwood. A large open set. An animator sprinkles something on the miniature wood set. A puppet of the main character is seen from behind towards the left. A camera is behind the animator (you can see their back on the screen on the far left). Someone in the background has a ladder.

I used to watch Grimm just to see how warped the geography would get. Portland stretches all the way out to Mount Hood? Ok. A park in Sellwood comes out in Irvington? Just fine. (although my favorite is apparently California execs asked why the crew glued so much moss to the trees)

This one, in front of City Hall by Maya McDarragh was our favorite. In addition to the cherry blossom theme, there's also lots of references to the history of Japanese-American Portlanders, and depicts the Japanese American Historical Plaza on the bird's back.
Various images within the cherry blossom on the bird's breast depicting historical buildings/moments The bottom of the tailfeathers recreates the approach to the Japanese American Historical Plaza as if entering it by crossing Naito Parkway. And the back, showing parts of the interment memorial, the cherry blossom grove and the Steel Bridge in the distanceThe bird in full from in front.

Various Wildwood Crows spotted around Portland today. Unlike a couple of years ago with the cats, the website doesn't list all of the Crows and all of the artists. Instead you need to download an app which isn't free (so two ways I'm not getting it). So I'm not able to credit the artists here.

I'll second a rec for statins. I went through years of doctors convinced I was lying when I told them I was a vegetarian who avoided foods associated w/high cholesterol bec/ my numbers were off the charts and eventually got a prescription for simvastatin & an apology from another doctor.

Similarly, a large multi-lane highway w/o lights can be a freeway or a highway, but also an interstate (if it is one) or a 'pike, or also a parkway, which is usually smaller than a freeway, but I've been on sections of interstates that are less wide than parkways where I grew up.

I'll use hero or sub most often, but occasionally hoagie or grindah. (Po' boy would imply some sort of Cajun sandwich filling, like how a banh mi isn't a sub/hero). But for most of my youth, this was a wedge (and served on half a loaf of Italian bread)

likewise I'll use different "regionalisms" for the same thing with no real preference (rotary, roundabout, traffic circle). I feel like some of the questions don't get to my accent, like this one. I'll use most of these depending, although youse is never alone, it's always "alla youse"
What do you usually say when talking to a group of people? You guys;y'all;youse;you all

I grew up exposed to multiple accents just in my community, let alone ones from travel and summer camp. I kinda use bitsa alladem. I'll add eh, no or yo to the end of sentences (the latter less since leaving NY) consistent w/dialects, but inconsistently to myself.

Starbucks Workers United @sbworkersunited.org · 25/08/2026
🚨BREAKING: Our union of over 12,000 baristas are officially calling for a Starbucks boycott. Read this statement penned by Starbucks workers on why a boycott from ALL customers, allies, and organizations is necessary to fight back against corporate greed:
BOYCOTT STARBUCKS is written inside a zig-zaggy speech bubble against crumbled paper. Beside it are the Starbucks Workers United logo and an image of a coffee cup being poured out.We, the 12,000 and growing members of Starbucks Workers United, call on everyone who stands with working people to boycott Starbucks until they finalize a contract with union baristas and stop union-busting.
What we’re fighting for is simple: a minimum $17/hr wage, enough hours to live on, better staffing in our stores, and basic workplace protections. Every year, our living costs rise but our wages don’t keep up – a growing pressure many American workers are feeling as corporate greed accelerates unchecked in our country.
Starbucks is banking on customers' blind loyalty to the integrity and values this company once stood for in order to keep squeezing them for profits. At a time when working-class people across the country are struggling in a challenging economy, it is no longer possible to be both a Starbucks customer and in support of workers; choosing to spend money at Starbucks is choosing a law breaking corporation over the baristas who make your coffee everyday exactly as you ask for it.
Starbucks has violated U.S. labor law more than any other company in modern history–the NLRB and its judges have found that Starbucks committed hundreds of labor violations and there are currently more than 550 unresolved unfair labor practice charges still pending against the company. Instead of finalizing a fair and reasonable union contract, Starbucks has repeatedly demonstrated a lack of care for the workers who fuel the company’s profits by wasting millions of dollars on AI and technology that doesn’t work, launching countless gimmicky drinks designed to distract from real problems, and inventing pointless policies that do nothing but make our jobs harder.
This ongoing, irrational behavior by Starbucks and its refusal to settle a fair union contract with workers leaves us with no other choice than to call for a boycott. We know when working people stand up together, we win.
No Contract? No Coffee.
