Obviously the Māori electorates are very different to the general electorates, but I feel the fear of overhangs may be overblown. It's looking more and more like Labour are going to pick up a big haul of electorates, likely including many National-held ones no one is looking at. #nzpol

New feature for The Progress Report: campaign finances! I've now got donation and expenses data for the 2023 and 2020 general elections and will gradually be backfilling with older and local elections. #nzpol

Just did the whichparty.nz quiz - got "Social Democrat", 90% Labour Party which I think is probably pretty spot on. Cool site but only thing I don't like is they don't disclose who is behind it or if anything is being done with the data they're collecting.

Quick update to The Progress Report - I've added major historical events (elections, changes of major party leaders etc) to my polling graphs, hopefully this additional context makes them even more useful. #nzpol

Based on these Verian numbers, if Opportunity were able to sneak up to 5.2% and Labour wins back Te Tai Tonga and Te Tai Tokerau, this is what the house would look like - you could have a Labour/Green/TOP government that doesn't even need to work with Tamihere and TPM. #nzpol

I've uploaded the latest Freshwater Strategy and Talbot Mills polls to my database so you can figure out who would get elected on those numbers. Here's my predictions for what the Labour caucus would look like under the Talbot Mills numbers... #nzpol

NZ Green candidate for Northcote, Bhen Goodsir has run 26 ads on Meta over the last month, but seems to be far more interested in spending his money on targeting Green Party members than on the voters of Northcote! #nzpol

I've also finally got around to fixing a bug with the graph on the poll graph and preferred PM poll graph, so the "Last Year" button now works properly, just adjusting the data to show the data for the last 12 months.

I've made some pretty major changes to the database behind The Progress Report. I've consolidated all of my general election candidates (and extended back to 2017) & 2025 local govt data. It's now all stored together so you can see what other elections & parties someone has stood for. #nzpol

Interesting (and concerning) post from an ACT Local candidate about how the National Party handles voter data. #nzpol
Screenshot of a Facebook post from Michelle Magnus with the following text...

"So I’ve been thinking … Members of the silent majority are slowly waking up.
The impression I am getting from posts here is despite frequently emailing Ministers, MPs etc you don’t get a response.
I worked in an MPs office for a few years. MPs do respond to letters. You might get a nothing response but the important thing is a file is opened and your letter kept with an “issue” title.
This database (the Nats one anyway) is able to be seen by all other Nat MPs. Don’t worry any information coming into the electorate office is not subject to OIA.
I am going to start writing to MPs at their electorate office addresses - at this stage one a week as there is so much crap going on.
If a majority of us started doing this their electorate office will be very busy! More importantly they will be bombarded with what their voters think and forced to respond instead of ignoring us.
So join me in some old fashioned letter writing to Ministers and MPs of all the coalition parties.
If possible make an appointment to see your local MP during recess. That also creates a file and bring a list of things they’re getting wrong ( it’s long I know)! You do not need to specify why you want to see the MP.
Some good for thought today."
