The silver lining of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is it is accelerating decarbonisation, which given ‘drill baby drill’ also provides some schadenfreude. In the end though Trump‘s chaos is a morale sapping, head spinning nightmare making all co-ordination much harder.

Dale is against Heat Pumps fairly cynically in my view because he has a bio gas business waiting in the wings, but it needs enormous amounts of land so can’t deliver for that many households.

Great point - energy security!

This has Vince Dale written all over it. He is waiting in the wings with his bio gas product, which due to the land required can’t serve that many households. The question to the government is, without Heat Pumps, how will you transition millions of households with gas boilers to zero carbon.

Let’s see the evidence. Saying they interfered doesn’t mean they were effective and effective on what scale? There is much more evidence Remain ran a terrible campaign, and Leave ran a good campaign.

That’s not true. He could have got on stage and said ‘ I will resign if this passes, because it will massively weaken our party, play into the hands of enemies, and won’t help the Palestinians one tiny bit. This is narcissism masquerading as activism.’

It’s more funny that the Green anti Zionist motion tried to define Zionism over the heads of Jews, a minority, and then judge them against that definition.

Holding those positions perhaps ensures avoiding the painful work of having to change one’s mind…in this case about who is oppressing who.

The current low level zeitgeist is ‘war is inevitable‘ whether with Russia or China. The folks that say this are called realists. The danger is this makes its own reality. My objections is that peace is in someway less real. No. It needs hard headed work, (no room for romance).

So why are your own Green Party Jewish members objecting to the motion? The best that can be said is ‘this is likely to be misunderstood but to make us feel better we will put it out anyway. It will weaken the EGP, won’t help Palestinians BUT we will feel morally superior so it’s important we do it

‘Calling all forms or interpretations of Zionism ‘racism’ is painting a diverse group of people with a broad brush and in effect, it accepts the most extreme right-wing version of Zionism (Kahanism) peddled by the far right as definitive. This is like accepting the EDL’s definition of Englishness.’

It should also ideally listen to its minorities who know about the definition of the word in question and think humbly about using said word. jewishgreens.greenparty.org.uk/2026/02/12/w...

Well said. The ego involved is huge. When the Jewish Greens came out against this, you’d think that would have provided some pause, at least ‘maybe this isn’t going to be understood.‘ jewishgreens.greenparty.org.uk/2026/02/12/w...

Unfortunately, just as climate change is mushrooming, the Greens are imploding over Zionism. Party influence may have peaked.

I was wondering, when the Jewish Greens came out against the motion, did that provide any pause?

I don’t think it is inherently discriminatory. Zionism is about have a home, safe from persecution. There is nothing supremacist in that. It can be corrupted like any human idea, hence my point about the current Israeli government.
100
theologically.bsky.social @theologically.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
There is no need to use the word Zionism to criticise the current Israeli government is the thing. It’s a word of multiple meanings, and the EGP have, as the article says, defined it one way over the heads of a minority.
100
theologically.bsky.social @theologically.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Arguably the EGP should have asked more Jews about the word Zionism before defining it for them. More eloquently stated below. Meanwhile climate doubles down. www.linestotake.com/p/green-part...

I read Simon Schama’s History of the Jews, it lays out 2000 years of persecution. I think establishing a Jewish state is a good response to that. I don’t disagree with what you say but I bet there were challenges to that view all the way through and both are zionists. Meanwhile climate change

Why does it need to use the term Zionism at all? The israeli state would do. Zionism isn’t inherently racist as far as I can see, it’s about having a home. Not about supremacy. Not only that it imposes a definition of Zionism on Jewish. Better said here: www.linestotake.com/p/green-part...

This article says it better than I can. Zionism is racism is in itself racist. Also Zionism is not racist, it’s about establishing a homeland free from persecution. It’s not a supremacist idea, even if it can be corrupted (Like anything by us flawed humans). www.linestotake.com/p/green-part...

as you say, it seems pretty clear they have inadvertently adopted a racist policy, which therefore could be struck down? They do indeed need to find a away to reverse this. www.linestotake.com/p/green-part...

@sturdyalex.bsky.social posted this earlier. Which explains why the particular wording of the motion is racist in itself. Surely the GP can therefore strike this down. www.linestotake.com/p/green-part...

A powerful article. I’d guess that the GP could strike this down as anti constitutional ie ‘by listening to minorities we’ve established we have inadvertently adopted a racist position, the current policy will be scrapped, and we will pause and reflect before returning to policy in this araa‘

If the bluesky chat is right, then Greens democratic structurea were exploited by entryists, and the leadership push back came way too late to turn it back. A massive setback. Meanwhile climate change doubles down.

No quite right I wouldn’t. Any idea can be corrupted and the Right in Israel are doing that, but I don’t think the idea of establishing a homeland for a persecuted people is a racist idea. It’s not supremacist. I accept it is however v difficult to set up in a way that doesn’t cause grievance.
000
theologically.bsky.social @theologically.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I’m not saying how it was enacted was morally pure. I am saying, the idea of a safe home isn’t a racist idea.

theologically.bsky.social @theologically.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Intent matters. Being for protecting a persecuted people, is different from being aggressively against another people.

theologically.bsky.social @theologically.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Ideally the israeli state would be left wing but currently it’s not, I don’t think that makes Zionism racist. Zionism is about home. I don’t deny it’s problematic to create a new state from nothing but it’s not inherently a racist act. Just exceptionally hard to do.

I listened to Simon Schama’s History of the Jews. From antiquity to the modern era it shows unparalleled suffering. The case for a Jewish state is very strong in my view, and therefore Zionism as a political idea has a moral foundation. It can be corrupted, but it doesn’t make it a racist idea.
