a little unfair, marino was a college free agent and set to sign in pittsburgh for nothing so a 6th was the best we could expect in that situation

similar to all the americans that made a show of loudly proclaiming they would move to canada if trump got elected but stayed anyways (both times)

soon the entire league will be composed of general managers that are card carrying members of the oilers old boys club

that is to say the league and nhlpa should find a way to incentivize loyalty, players can receive extra revenue available to them or trade protection but not both

hell bent for average goaltending @theoilluminati.bsky.social · 14/10/2026

alternative would be to invalidate the nmc if a player requests a trade or attach an over-the-cap bonus to contracts that don't include one - eg: if you sign 7y x 10m with an nmc that is business as usual, if you sign 7x10 without one you get an extra 10% or 1m/yr that doesn't count towards the cap

im all for player autonomy but if nmcs were designed to provide player security from being moved, players wielding them to force a move is antithetical to that

believe lorne said that he wants the show to represent the broad spectrum of america and unfortunately that is why he invites these guys to host - so basically nytimes oped decision making

he's a quality shooter but the profile we should be looking for is a young & dynamic winger that we can attach to connor for the next several years - selling his old junior teammate as the future isn't going to help with that mission

the best part of debrincat getting extended is that oilers fans no longer have to hear about what it would take to trade for him
