And separate but related: the Hessians actually ran through my town back then and they took over houses, slaughtered a bunch of chickens and stole horses. In classic “I never checked the school lunch transaction history” I just found out that French fries are an extra $2.75 which is nearly the entire cost of the lunch itself. The moms told me to expect a churro and ice cream budget line at the new school, but I’m still smarting about these fries.

A town near us is voting on whether to spend millions to fix their schools’ HVAC and give the kids an actual gym instead of attempting to play volleyball between desks in the classrooms. They also have “temporary learning cottage units” which is the fanciest name I’ve ever seen for a trailer.
