Unboxing the special edition He Who Ate the Wild by GJ Terral! It's awesome to hold this in my hand after getting to see all the behind the scenes work Greg has been doing in the last year to write, edit, and produce the book. So much love and care and it all turned out beautifully!

The crack spreads across the foundation of the entire city as if it was a fallen boulder split in half. There are unusual metal pieces amongst the rock, but whatever they had been, they are no more.

010

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 09/08/2026

CartAugust 9 The forest surrounding the ruins of Paraducial have trees bowed outward and shattered boulders litter the clearing. The strange foundation of the former city is cracked in the middle. Nobody knows what happened, only that's it's been like this since the ruins were originally discovered

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 08/08/2026

Deep in the forest there are large insects that play a significant role in book 2...

110

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 08/08/2026

#CartAugust 7 The forests of Tembour are massive. Near the lake, it is swampy and there are cypress trees with their twisty roots. Further inland, the trees are so large that the town carved them out to make the Boscage School including a grand library.

150

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 08/08/2026

Oh I love that fly/moth illustration!

010

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 07/08/2026

The Munayallpans are artisans, so they import lumber from all over depending on whatever wood strikes their fancy at a given time. Cherry and cypress woods are imported from Tembour. Oak and pine from Buckwheat Village.

110

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 07/08/2026

#CartAugust 7 Two great forests exist in Arathanon, one surrounding Buckwheat Lake adn the other that serves as the border between Benia and Munayallpa (Lithistan). The latter is mostly barren around Strongfair and they've resorted to importing additional lumber

181

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

Yeah! I love when there are consequences to the worldbuilding like this

020

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

Boulder beetles are my favorite monster. They are the size of a dog and wait among the rocky tors for animals to walk underneath where they will push a boulder, hoping to crush their prey underneath and eat them. They are seen when pushing their boulders uphill to reset the trap like a dung beetle

120

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

Hope they have some kind of sunglasses for desert travel otherwise white sand would be very harsh on the eyes!

120

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

👀What a cool idea for a biome! Terrifying but cool!

030

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

#CartAugust 6 The natural landscape is harsh. There are no horses in Arathanon and travel by cart can be treacherous, so sailing is usually the travel method of choice. Though the Kaleenmunda Desert and Boral Mountains are the most dangerous places with their harsh temperatures and monsters.

151

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

#CartAugust 5 The Haverhein River that flows between Buckwheat Lake and the Sea of Loctee is the most prominent waterway in the story. It is safe to travel for experienced sailors but has some tricky bends and sandbanks that could spell disaster to a beginner.

040

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 04/08/2026

But what if I touch the mists just a little bit?

110

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 04/08/2026

A Cocoon Realm seems either very cozy or terrifying lol

010

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 04/08/2026

Sir Ian Pelware was a famous explorer looking for the legendary Odyllic Stone. He accidentally discovered gold just north of Buckwheat Village, and by the time of the events in the story a mine is erected there in his name. Nobody knows what happened to Pelware himself. He's been missing for years.

020

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 04/08/2026

#CartAugust 4 Natural Barriers The Boral Mountains are the biggest barrier in the region, keeping the frigid country of Jash separated from the rest of the region. Two lakes split the continent in thirds and are the fastest and safest way to travel from city to city.

150

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 03/08/2026

I love that you have the little "friend" in the Thangul Sea

120

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 03/08/2026

#CartAugust 3 Yes, the events in The Odyllic Stone have left a scar on the land and changed the map! Book 2 will contain the map of Arathanon as it exists after those events. A key scene of this book is a visit to this scar. Also very minor, we learn the name of a city in ruins, so that's updated.

130

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 03/08/2026

They say blue-handed people live in the mountains. And there they have tiny boxes that capture starlight that they save for cloudy skies when the winter is endless.

120

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 02/08/2026

Myths that seep into the culture add so much juicy depth to a story!

020

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 02/08/2026

Sounds like the perfect intrigue setup!

020

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 02/08/2026

Sunken countries are so cool! Does it show up in the story directly or indirectly?

120

Alex Scheuermann @theodyllicstone.bsky.social · 02/08/2026

Eerie to have a place like in the middle of things that's unmapped!
