Truly great conference
Three clergy in black vestments with silver trim stand behind a white marble altar during a Requiem at the Society of Catholic Priests conference at St. Paul's Cathedral, Buffalo. Two have hands joined in prayer and one holds a biretta. Lit candles in brass holders line the altar beneath a Gothic stone reredos with gold mosaic panels and a central mosaic of two kneeling angels flanking a glowing cross. In the foreground, a catafalque draped in black with a gold embroidered band stands betweenn tall black candlesticks.

From my facebook response about this:
The first is just the inverse of the ladder above: the strongest correlate of bottom quartile decline is having 0 of the fours practices. Next is having no adult formation at all and having no distinction between governance and ministry/program, though these are both somewhat size signals (although in terms of remediation, it *is* possible to have a functional distinction between governance and ministry even if it's largely the same people doing both). Then things that block moving into growth but don't automatically put you in steepest decline include permanent nametags for members and disposable for visitors and vestry only (vs all leadership team) retreats. Finally the really interesting thing is the specific family stuff: for Anglo Catholic parishes, a history of no clergy misconduct or leadership style change means they almost never fall into steep decline—but with these in the history they become as likely as anyone else to fall into steep decline. Then, really interestingly, among churches that have a contemporary musical idiom, a praise band with paid director points toward higher decline likelihood!

Very much this
"Comic panel with two figures. Left: a scowling, hunched man labeled 'NORMAL GUY' thinks 'I loathe every person I see on the street!' and 'Lookit that stupid ass-hole!' Right: a relaxed, whistling man in glasses, mustache, and a cap walks by, unaware, whistling a musical note. Background shows a city skyline."

Bronze Civil War monument with green patina atop a rough granite pedestal. Three Union soldiers are grouped together mid-action: a central standing figure in a slouch hat raises a cavalry saber overhead, a soldier at left presses forward with a bayoneted rifle, and a third crouches low at right. The pedestal's front face is inscribed, "To the memory of the Wisconsin men who fought in the War for the Union, 1861–1865." An adjacent face bears a bronze laurel wreath encircling the battle honors "Atlanta" and "Gettysburgh." Behind the monument stand bare winter trees and tan-brick downtown storefronts under a flat gray sky.

Mohist
Mozi, c. 470–391 BCE — universal love and the discipline of utility
You would have been a Mohist — a follower of Mozi (c. 470–391 BCE), founder of one of the great schools of the Hundred Schools period. You believed in universal love (jian ai) — impartial concern for everyone, against the Confucian gradation of moral concern by relationship. You opposed offensive war (and Mohists were famous for sending fortification experts to help besieged states), supported meritocracy against hereditary privilege, advocated frugality against aristocratic display, opposed elaborate funerals and music, and believed in Heaven as a moral force that rewards and punishes. The Mohists were organized like a religious-military order under a grand master (juzi). After the Han dynasty the school disappeared as a coherent movement and was only rediscovered in the late Qing. You are the figure of the consequentialist-egalitarian — utilitarian in something like the modern sense, anti-elitist, pacifist except in defense, organized for action.

As with all of these, I think no one will be terribly surprised
Screenshot of a quiz result screen styled like an early-modern printed page—cream paper, deep-red and black serif type, a thin ruled border. A small red heading reads "Your closest counterpart," and the result, large and in red, is "The Jesuit." Beneath it: "1540 onward · from Iberia and Rome outward · Catholic reform," and in italic, "Ignatius, the Spiritual Exercises."
A short description reads: "You find God in all things and so refuse the cloister—you teach, you argue, you sail to the ends of the earth. You think the world is not to be fled but won, and that disciplined obedience is the highest freedom."
Then, "Representative figures: Ignatius of Loyola, Francis Xavier, Matteo Ricci." An opened "Read more" section lists—Primary: Ignatius of Loyola, The Spiritual Exercises (1548). Secondary: John W. O'Malley, The First Jesuits (1993).
Below a small ornament, a ranked list titled "How the field falls"—each row a type name, a one-line descriptor in italic, a blue bar, and a percentage: The Jesuit (Catholic reform) 100%, The Cambridge Platonist (rational religion) 97%, The Puritan (godly Calvinist) 97%, The Mathematical Mystic (cosmos as divine geometry) 82%, The Humanist (Christian humanist) 80%, The Civic Republican (commonwealth-man) 79%, The Pietist (heart religion) 78%, The Virtuoso (experimental philosopher) 75%. A "Show the full field" button sits at the bottom.

your closest affinity

Barley
Hordeum vulgare — Fertile Crescent, c. 10,000 BCE
You are Barley — one of the original founder crops of the Fertile Crescent, alongside einkorn and emmer. Hardier than wheat, more tolerant of poor soils and short growing seasons, barley fed the ancient Sumerians, Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans (Roman gladiators were called hordearii, 'barley eaters'); it remains a staple in Tibet (tsampa), parts of Korea (boribap), Scotland (broth), and the brewing industries of the whole world. Barley contains gluten (though less than wheat) and is not celiac-safe. The flavor is nutty, slightly sweet, with a chewy bite the Italians make great mileage of in orzotto. You are the figure of the ancient workhorse — present at every table for ten thousand years, often as the grain you forgot to notice, but also the grain that became beer.

Pretty pumped about this conclusion to my annual address for our annual meeting tomorrow:
Trinity Mission’s is to form an inclusive, loving Anglican community of disciples of Jesus Christ, fearlessly seeking justice for all and reconciliation between God and all creation.

Our vision is A vibrant and joyful Episcopal community, grounded in prayer, worship, and scripture, in which people of all ages, races, ethnicities, genders, and sexual orientations can thrive, manifesting God’s love, and working for a just and merciful world for all.

I hope you hear that we are already doing this. We are already becoming more and more aligned with what our vision is. But I hope that we can let these focus more intently the energy we have around growth, to continue to living into the vision of magnificent humanity rooted in a glorious God, the vision of a God who is gloriously governing us. Because the other threat that we have, and we have to constantly be checking it, is thinking that *we* are so wonderful, that *we* are making all this happen. We must constantly learn to greet the community we have and we are as a gift, and a gift to be shared, an invitation into our slice of anticipating the kingdom of God. As soon as we start to think that we have arrived, that we are the engines of our own success, either as individuals or as a community, that we are so wonderful, we begin to construct Babel rather than rebuilding the roads to make way for the exiles to come home. As we leave this annual meeting today, let us remember the task that is ever before us, pressing on toward the goal, a goal not of our own making, but one more glorious than we can imagine, a goal of living into and recognizing the dignity of our magnificent, glorious humanity, bound for the promised land as we are bound by God who is leading us there, bound by the God who ultimately IS our promised land.

O Lord our Governor, *
how exalted is your Name in all the world!

Result card reading "You Are Most Resonant With Karl Rahner (1904–1984), Transcendental Thomist," followed by a paragraph describing Rahner's career: Martin Honecker's rejection of Geist in Welt as insufficiently Thomistic in 1936, training under Maréchal and influence from Heidegger's Freiburg seminars, the argument that the human creature is constitutively oriented toward absolute mystery, Hörer des Wortes as theological anthropology, his work as a peritus at Vatican II shaping Lumen Gentium, Dei Verbum, and Gaudium et Spes, and the concepts of the "supernatural existential" and "anonymous Christianity." Closes with the line that every human act of love or knowing is already secretly oriented toward the God whose name may not yet have been heard. Results screen titled "Your Top Resonances" showing eight theologians ranked by score with horizontal bar graphs. Karl Rahner, Alexander Schmemann, Hans Urs von Balthasar, and Joseph Ratzinger / Benedict XVI tie at 100; Herbert McCabe at 92, John Zizioulas at 89, Henri de Lubac at 83, Sergius Bulgakov at 81.

To the right of each name, there is a horizontal bar shaded in varying intensities of brown, followed by a numerical value. Samuel Taylor Coleridge is at the top in bold maroon text, with a solid brown bar and a score of 100. The other names, John Fletcher, John Wesley, John Henry Newman, Nikolaus von Zinzendorf, Jonathan Edwards, F.D. Maurice, and E.B. Pusey, are in black text. Their corresponding bars decrease in intensity and length, with scores ranging from 74 to 53.
