This was about The Invitation (2015), which would make a good "dinner party from hell as therapy session" double feature with The Invite (if you are someone who thinks humor and horror sit side by side)

Not sure what this gained by being a series instead of a movie, but I had a good time with it

I always think that Travis Knight, director of Bumblebee and Masters of the Universe, and Travis Knight, the Laika guy and Nike heir, is a Danny McBride situation (screenwriter of Underworld and actor/comedian, two totally different people). Nope, same person I am periodically surprised to remember

I'm really not a quantity/stats person, but I think I'll actually hit 100 movies watched this year (for the first time since the twins were born), and this feels big to me

Very weird to watch a movie from the mid-2010s and notice how the costumes feel dated now. Maybe it's just that inexplicable decade thing, where once ten years pass, you notice it seems old

Wild accent work though (I can't speak to the authenticity of anyone's Newfoundland accent, but to my ear every actor is doing something different??)

Hell, give the Oscar to Ryan Gosling. I didn't love PHM, but he held that thing together and made it a hit with his movie star charisma. I wouldn't be mad about it

BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON hit Broadway in 2010 and it positions Jackson, Trump’s favorite president, as an aggrieved, whiny populist in a pop-punk mode. It remains my favorite piece of pre-Trump Trump art.

A year ago, @propublica.org told you immigration agents had detained more than 170 U.S. citizens. We’ve updated our count, and we’ve got all the receipts. The tally: At least 506 citizens detained. Sometimes held at gunpoint, handcuffed, or even deported. projects.propublica.org/american-cit...

More Than 500 U.S. Citizens Have Been Detained, Including Handcuffed or Held at Gunpoint, in Trump’s Immigration Crackdown — ProPublica
The government doesn’t track how often immigration officers detain U.S. citizens. So ProPublica did. We’ve found more than 500 Americans who were held against their will during this Trump administrati...

I loved it, and it was my favorite one of the three in the little VHS collection we had. Again, I do not know why I didn't realize that I actually like horror movies so (relatively) late in my life

There was a Beatrix Potter cartoon where Tom Kitten got captured by rats. They were going to eat him, so they buttered him up and rolled him into a pastry. He gets away in the end, obviously, but the scene where they wrap him in the dough and he makes these sad meows really freaked me out

Because, yeah, when I talk to her, what she says she believes and what she says she wants out of government aligns pretty much exactly with mainstream Democrats. I just can't get her to see that. It's wild

Leah Carlson @themingtacular.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
She always says, "I could vote for someone moderate, but they never run anyone moderate!" And I just... don't even know where to go with that anymore

This is my mom 100%. She thinks Trump is a clown, but she's voted for him three times. I struggle every day to explain to her that she substantively agrees with the Democrats because she actually can't get her mind around it after being told how scary the Dems are for decades

Just the dumbest mother fucker you know saying, "They cancelled Paw Patrol!!" like it's something I should care about. And the show is still airing; he doesn't mean literally cancelled, which is the most hilarious part to me, personally

But now every time they wear the pajamas, I hear Chris Hansen's TruBlu business partner saying in an interview in the documentary, outraged and totally serious, "They cancelled Paw Patrol" when listing the casualties of Woke 1.0 and the 2020 BLM protests

Now my toddlers keep asking for Paw Patrol branded things, so when we picked Halloween pajamas, they wanted the Paw Patrol ones. I let them get them because those were the ones they were jazzed about.

Two seemingly unrelated things: 1. I watched the documentary Predators a couple of weeks ago (high recommendation, by the way) in anticipation of Primetime 2. My toddlers learned what Paw Patrol is even though they have never watched it
