I might be telling you something you already know. So apologies if so. But EU directives are a minimum standard that EU members agree to but can choose how they are implemented and if they want to exceed the standards. It gives us examples like France using reusable plastic in McDonald's.

The EU has freedom of expression in the human rights legislation and all EU members ageee to it. Remember EU is not Europe. The uk has the Human rights act which is our version of the law.

Look at what's happening with trump and cnn etc. Even fox news is not happy with the situation as it sets a nasty example that could escalate. I think x should be banned if it can't get things under control but it keeps the crazy in a pretty self contained place.

We have freedom of expression in most if not all European countries. It's not a good look to ban a platform hosting most of your critics. What is wrong is when it breaks the law. Even the US freedom of speech has limits.
