Sorry to be a hater but the fact you need to wake up super early on a Sunday (and pay a fee) to enjoy a car-free DLSD is a sick joke. If you get there at 9, you have 90 minutes before rolling closures begin. G-d forbid drivers are inconvenienced. ATA has been content with scraps for 25 years.

Identifying someone by what they call "coke" still undefeated, but I wonder if that is decreasing over time. Also found it funny that "icing" is on the quiz. Y'all should hear my sister say the word 'icing'. I often joke that words like icing, lighting or sprite are dead giveaways for southerners.

Anyone else have a dog that is obsessed with cicadas? Walking my dog is such a chore in August. Tonight marks the second time she has held one in her mouth unbeknownst to me and decided to release it after we are back inside. If you thought cicadas were loud outside, wait until you hear one inside

Last week, measured in elevation. According to my watch, a week in Denver plus some time in the mountains was enough to get my altitude acclimation to about 4600ft. Living at sea level but visiting the mountains is always an experience. One day maybe I’ll stay long enough to get acclimated.

Careful out there #bikechi I just had a black minivan (Honda I think) swerve directly toward me coming head on on Sunnyside. I thought it was a normal inatentive driver but as he got closer to me and I swerved around him he flipped me off. At that point I assume it was intentional. Wtf?!

Living under one of the flight paths to O’Hare, I’ve gotten pretty good at identifying 747s over head just by how loud they are. This is the first time I’ve checked one out and saw it was diverting though.

Transformer drama in the alley last night. ComEd came out shortly after and had the transformer replaced in a couple hours. In this heat I was kinda thankful this happened around midnight instead of mid day.

I’ve n+1 too many times and I have to let one go. Let me know if anyone has interest in a nice low maintenance city bike. It’s a Priority Continuum Onyx, size 21”, so for riders 6ft+ish. Belt drive, dynamo hub, fenders, basket, awesome for all seasons. #bikechi

Want to take Amtrak to St Louis, but the price is getting out of hand. Also there’s only 1 bike spot left… seems like if you don’t book months in advance for Amtrak, there’s no point. Part of the convenience of train travel is supposed to be flexibility though… run more trains!

Yesterday was the first ride on my new bike. It’s a Surly Grappler, but setup as a flat bar 29er. It’s comfy and pretty quick considering what it is. I think I made the right choice for my new do it all bike. Fenders and rack coming soon.

Got this telescope from my grandad many many years ago, but I haven't used it in years. I wanted it to go to good use. Today I donated it to Joe Guzman (chicagoastronomer.com). What a nice guy.
