most part, stopped hissing at her, though he is still adjusting to her. but most of the time, she loves to play with him one-sided - she'll sneak up on him, and then he'll run away, and she'll follow him until he hisses - and he sort of lets her? he's my cat, so he's very gentle with his corrections

oh btw the new cat is now a permanent fixture of the main house!!! she gets fed in the bathroom now (where she can slip out), but otherwise, she's 100% in the house now. after her limited days of being a lone stray (probably less than a month), she far prefers the indoors! and my cat has, for the--

social anxiety doesn’t discriminate. it also carries into your personal relationships when you’re texting your mom and you send a text before thinking only to realize she’ll think that’s patronizing (but you’re probably blowing it out of proportion)

(also very glad it was her and not our full pyrenees (who is barred from backyard use until further notice due to her abuse of the fence) because she would never have listened when i called her name. at least my dog recognizes and understands the severity of the mom voice!)

thought my dog had injured herself or something because when i checked on her in the backyard, she was crying under the deck. and keep in mind, this dog is over 100 pounds. she'd have to be desperate to get there. but she came out without a problem, and there's no blood, or limping, or anything...

the cons of living in the countryside: constant creepy noises (coyotes crying, random cars reversing for hours at night, cows screaming in the middle of the night), solitude, having to drive for at least 30 minutes to find any big stores the perks of living in the countryside:

a deer right in my neighbor’s front yard staring directly at me and my dog in the middle of the night without running. no clue if this one (not sure if it’s a doe or a fawn because we do have a mama with twin fawns that frequent the area) moved at all, but they were staring us down for our entire walk. it was like a deer in headlights except there were no headlights LOL. really cool though.

fun fact: our dog goes outside at nighttime so often that she doesn’t really mind deer anymore. she alerted me to this one in a brief stare then kept walking, which is the usual reaction. I’m honestly waiting for the deer in the area to just stop caring about us and start ignoring us whenever we come out.

and this boy has been coming up to her and hissing at her constantly since we first started introductions, so even if he didn’t want to play, he was still tolerating, which basically means he has started to accept her into the pact!!! because tbh he just tolerates every other occupant of the house

i think i just accidentally caught the new kitten playing with my cat and you guys… this is such a monumental thing no matter if they were playing or not. if they were, my cat is very cautious and reluctant to trust anyone other than me and his littermate so WOW. and if they weren’t, he didn’t hiss.

if anybody was curious though, after nearly 4 weeks of periodic but frequent introductions, we feel comfortable letting the new kitty run with the rest of our animals. all of our dogs are either very gentle with or don’t care about her and my mom’s cat has already accepted her into the pack :,)
