MALVINA is not just a method for us, but a story of questions, teamwork, coffee and millions of cells. We wrote down how the project grew from one simple question into a @natcomms.nature.com study. Read the Behind the Paper story, and follow us communities.springernature.com/posts/one-qu...

One Question, Millions of Cells: How MALVINA Was Born
A simple question and millions of single-cell measurements led us to rethink how bacterial virulence should be measured.

What can MALVINA be used for? Beyond measuring whether bacteria survive, MALVINA shows what they do to human cells. This single-cell, machine-learning approach could support pathogen profiling, probiotic discovery, drug testing and virulence-aware toxicity studies. 👉 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Counting bacteria is not enough. To understand what makes a bacterium dangerous, we need to see what it actually does when it meets human cells. Our MALVINA study is now out in @natcomms.nature.com www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Deep-learning single-cell profiling uncovers interbacterial and drug-driven reshaping of pathogen virulence - Nature Communications
This study introduces MALVINA, a deep-learning platform that measures bacterial invasion and DNA damage in individual human cells, revealing how bacterial interactions and commonly used drugs reshape ...

Some scientific connections are even better in person! 🇵🇹 At #GIMMFest, our lab members Bognár Bence and Nándor Kovács presented their research, exchanged ideas with Roy Kishony and finally met our consortium partner @isabelgordo.bsky.social. Great science, great people! 🦠✨

Individuals can carry different variants of HLA genes. Some HLA variants bind a broad range of peptide sequences, whereas others are more selective. Is this variation associated with susceptibility to infection? www.nature.com/articles/s41...

HLA-II peptide-binding diversity shapes humoral immune responses and susceptibility to infections - Nature Communications
Human leukocyte antigen class II (HLA-II) are involved in the presentation of peptides to helper T cells which guide in the B cell response and antibody production. Here Magyari et al, show that HLA-I...
