Hispanic Heritage Month turns 57 this year. It started as a single week in 1968, then grew into a full month by 1988. Fifty-seven years later, it still holds nearly 68 million of us, 1 in 5 Americans. A week in 1968. A month by 1988. We're just getting started.

As a teen, our small family relied on food stamps and food baskets. Right now there are plenty of opportunities to support food insecure families. Today our family joined friends to volunteer at a local apple orchard donating their apples to area food banks. Many hands make for light work.
