When I was a kid, we had a trampoline. My brother, sister, and I had seen very little wrestling, but we still turned it into wrestling, lol. We even booked our own little shows, came up with characters, and moves. Just kids being kids.

No matter how much we hear it inside our heads, words don't fully take their full meaning, power, and shape until they are said out loud. Sometimes, hearing it in your voice can solidify their meaning. Other times, they can cast necessary doubt on your feelings. Both are necessary.

They didn't need me to respond. Fuck, if I'd responded it likely could have made it worse for them as they expressed their emotional, personal situation. Hearing them use that phrasing helped me recognize something I've thought but only recently said out loud because I needed to hear myself say it.

I sat with a friend today and actively listened to them vent. Our whole conversation isn't something I'd ever share, but they did use a phrasing that hit me very clearly. "I just needed to say it out loud, so I could hear myself saying it."
