Circuit Breaker - The Black Archive Files: What's the deal?

I often talk about how much care and attention to detail goes into the Classic Series releases to convince us fans to shell out on something...

I think it was Frontios - Part One. But I can't remember.

The version of Dalek on the Circuit Breaker release has also been fixed. The original take used on the broadcast take of the “You tortured me!” line has been reinstated. As has the correct timing of the “Bad Wolf One” line. Comparison vid here - www.youtube.com/watch?v=rE1m...

This version of these episodes have never been released before in the UK, making them exclusive to this set. I have no idea how this happened. Presumably it's a mistake. The runtime is only slightly longer than the UK version, so there is no slowdown.

Bizarrely the new Circuit Breaker Blu-ray release uses the US broadcast version of The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon, which includes an additional recap sequence just before the titles with a voiceover from Amy Pond recapping the events of Series 5.

Thanks Tim. Sorry to hear you have been having a tough time. The prospect of missing episodes being found and the research, mainly aided by your podcast has reignited my passion for missing episodes. I will get by.

Basically the audio is a fixed version of the 2009 box set release. The Cyber stops are still present and the choir music when the incarnations of the Doctor flash up on screen is the orchestral version. But I still think it's the best release of the story we've had.

Picked up the Blu-ray German release of The Next Doctor. This includes a 5.1 English mix which has fixed the errors present on the UK S1-4 set, containing missing dialogue. It plays at the correct speed as well.

What does the Labour Party and Doctor Who have in common? They both desperately resurrect names from the 00's in order to attempt to be popular again and fails miserably.

Quick iPlayer tip. If you want save time finding the episode tomorrow, watch the end of Galaxy 4: The Exploding Planet (animated) until the play next episode button appears and then exit. The next episode currently in the system is Day of Armageddon, but that should change…

Great post Matthew. It truly is such a shame to see them take this route when their restoration work on previous sets really shines and speaks for itself! Here’s to hoping the BBC can resolve this for the sets that have been infected with it, as well as future sets

I think the BBC have the full rights.

Splitting the release could potentially speed up the animation process, rather than have to wait for all 7 (or 8 including Mission) episodes to be completed. It also means if Film is Fabulous were to find an odd episode in the next couple of years, there is now a home for it.

Matthew Purchase @thecyberdevil.bsky.social · 16/03/2026

Thinking about how to the release The Daleks' Master Plan physically, I like the ideas a few people had of splitting the release in two and only animating the missing episodes. This is how I think a release like that could look.
