@bambulabglobal.bsky.social H2C printing white and red. The white filament might be a bit wet though 😅. Testing printing a small part of my upcoming new design. #excited

Tested out the Wireless Inductive Coil kit from Bambulab Maker Supply. It is so cool and enables so many new options to include into 3D printable designs. I got some cool ideas already 😊.

Three years ago I posted my first 3D printable design, unsure anyone would print it. Since then: shadow boxes, lamps, buildable animals, a horror series every October, and hundreds of your print photos. Thank you. Every tier half price this week, code TCM2Y. patreon.com/c/TheCraftyMaker

Bought 2 exclusive Lego House sets for myself. The kids got some sets too obviously 😊. We also tried The Lego Mini Chef meals. I didn't expect a lot of it, but it tasted surprisingly good. It was really tasty.

I haven’t touched a computer in 8 days. That hasn’t happened in a very long time. Normally, I take my own machine (my MS Surface Laptop Studio) everywhere I go. But for our trip to Denmark, I decided to leave it at home. And surprisingly, I don’t miss it at all. No regrets. 😊

The Lego House in Billund Denmark was such an amazing experience. Lots of interactive things to do for the kids and mind-blowing models. I really recommend it if you're a Lego fan.

The best user story on my current project delivered zero business value. One abstraction, introduced in isolation, and the team learned more from it than from any other slice. AI agents removed effort as the constraint. Comprehension is what I weigh now. open.substack.com/pub/thecraft...

Your User Stories Are Sized for the Wrong Bottleneck

Some designs are about solving a problem. This one was about texture, seeing how a ribbed surface would read next to a plain smooth one, same form, side by side. Download's been live a while. Grab it now. makerworld.com/en/models/43...

I finally wrote up a CAD trick I keep reusing: roofs that print without any support. Instead of making the printer cross one wide gap, you stack hexagons, rotate every other one, and shrink them until the opening has closed itself. No more support scars. open.substack.com/pub/thecraft...

Guess what? I'm back in the saddle. Finally found the motivation to start printing a design I've been putting off for a while. On top of that, I came up with a new design concept yesterday, and I'm pretty excited to see where it goes.

"Hexagonal or onion?" is the wrong question. They're the same dependency rule in different drawings. The choice that matters is the other axis: coupling (layers) vs cohesion (vertical slices). New Substack post open.substack.com/pub/thecraft...

Trump appears to be relying on a classic "bread and circuses" strategy. Ancient Roman emperors used gladiator games and grand spectacles to divert attention from public discontent. The tools may have changed, but the tactic is familiar.

A win, and honestly, it feels great. A patent troll tried to get my remix of a Shelly DIN mount taken down, claiming ownership of the design. I dug through the evidence, proved the patented design wasn’t actually theirs to begin with, and got my model reinstated.

Time to add custom supports to some parts of this new printable lamp. A few of these parts have very little contact with the build plate to achieve the best possible finish, so extra support is needed. I’ve never had to design my own supports before, so it’ll be interesting to see how they perform.

The Folio 4 from Orangemonkie is not small, but really impressed by the easy setup. It's kinda portable using the provide huge bag 😅 Really exited to try it out take pictures of my next design. I wished they provided RGB front lighting though. I would buy that add-on in an instant.

8/ To be honest, I’d even argue that open source, at least in the spirit many people idealize, is slowly dying in this industry.

The Crafty Maker @thecraftymaker.bsky.social · 12/05/2026
7/ And regarding open source: as a software developer, I have a very mixed relationship with OSS. I love what open source has enabled, but I also think people romanticize it sometimes. Maintaining OSS is hard, often thankless, and increasingly unsustainable.

6/ As for the claims that Bambu Lab is being a “bad actor” for going after creators violating their TOS, honestly, that feels like the reality of the world we live in today. Whether people like it or not, this kind of thing is considered normal business practice across many industries.

The Crafty Maker @thecraftymaker.bsky.social · 12/05/2026
5/ That said, I have zero issue with people preferring other brands or machines. There are definitely printers from other manufacturers that perform just as well, or even better in certain areas, and that’s perfectly fine. Everyone’s experience and priorities are different.

4/ At this point, I just need my machines to work reliably so I can focus on designing and printing instead of endlessly calibrating and troubleshooting.

3/ I’ve owned Anycubic and Creality printers before, and honestly, none of them came close for me personally. I spent years tinkering, tweaking, repairing, and constantly chasing print quality. Eventually, I got tired and frustrated with all of it.

The Crafty Maker @thecraftymaker.bsky.social · 12/05/2026
2/ Have I had issues with them? Absolutely. But most of those problems were fixable with a bit of technical knowledge and troubleshooting.

This is really the first time they launched a claim against me using a actual patent. Funny thing is the patent registration date is more than a year after the original creator the model and I created the remix. The guy accusing me of theft made me laugh so hard 😅
