It seemed like the internet and places like streaming would offer a creative renaissance. But because no one was setting up buffers to prevent creative efforts from being abused, it allowed corporate greed to swallow everything while turning it into a desolate wasteland.

It really is amazing how so many people are turning onto the notion that “the old ways were better” in regards to the internet in regards to things like TV, movies and comics, showing just how the internet was ruined by overwhelming corporate greed overtaking creative spaces.

It's to the point that it's kind of weird to see later stage TNG episodes where Riker is the protagonist given the focus he got in that first and second season.

Much like the "Battle Bridge" that never became much of a thing, it was clear that the Riker/Picard thing was set up to address the whole "Why is the Captain going no away missions?" thing. But the series became it's own thing, and weirdly Riker moved into a secondary role.

Watching early TNG is hilarious because it's *very* obvious that Riker was meant to be the main protagonist with Picard in a more supporting role, but it got changed pretty quickly due to Frakes not wanting to be the lead and Stewart being such a force of personality as an actor.

Still, I saw a lot of takes even afterwards that were saying that Hal was “mediocre” and that he never struggled with the same sort of societal pressures John did. This episode showed that, sure, he didn’t face those pressures. But it doesn’t mean he didn’t have his own.

I do think not enough people understand that just because a character on a show says something doesn't mean they are correct. (Media literacy is dead.)

I do like how the latest episode of Lanterns blew a gigantic hole in that “Hal got the ring because he was a mediocre white man who never had to deal with any real trauma” thing that was going around after the third episode.

Why do no other creators mention these politics? Why didn’t Axel Alonso, CB Cebulski, Nick Lowe or Tom Brevoort mention them? Why didn’t Donny Cates, Chip Zdarsky, Jonathan Hickman, Nick Spencer, Zeb Wells or Joe Kelly speak of them? Why do they only exist for Dan Slott?

Note how Slott does not and never will specify these nondescript “politics.” Just that they exist and are so all encompassing they could not be overturned, yet no other creator has spoken of them.

The “political minefield” being that it was happening with or without him and by making it seem it *only* happened due to his intervention he can insist people stop asking for more of it.

A deer walked into a store in Colorado. The shop owner gave her some cookies. After leaving the store, she returned after half an hour with her entire family.

And how much more successful the book was when *he* was writing it and so on and so forth. It'll take some major bridge burning to get there, but I could definitely see him heading that route while also writing for- I dunno- like a Hot Wheels comic or something.

I can honestly see him going the same route as Rob Liefeld, in that he'll spend a lot of time online talking about how awesome he was and how Marvel lost it's way and how he should be given control of the franchises while dealing with some smaller scale projects here and there.

Which he claims he never got credit for. Which there is no way for him to know because he's a freelancer, not a Marvel employee. And wasn't working with the Spider-Offices at the time. And no one who was on the books has confirmed his take.

His story has changed before too. First he claimed the marriage was *ONLY* coming back in RYV. And that was a one and done and only because it was an AU. And he had to "move mountains" to make it. *Everything* he claimed was eventually proved not to be true or he changed his story later.

And *IF* the marriage returns- and again I acknowledge that is a big "if" and it is not guaranteed, as much as I've claimed- he is going to have to address his statements *regardless.* Because as it's been shown, *he can't help himself.* People will bring up how he was adamant it could never return

At the very least the other guys gave themselves some wiggle room. They can say “We did it at the time because the book was in danger. But things have changed and the franchise is in a different place.” Slott gave himself no out *IF* the marriage returns. He was adamant it could *never* come back.

the issue with these guys is they always want to be objectively correct. Slott is scrambling because he made all these crazy claims and doesn't have the guts to admit, "ok I was wrong" which makes him a lot more pathetic

Exactly. And Slott *LOVES* to talk about sales. He loves talking about how successful his books have been and using them to justify his continued presence. But RYV is the *one* project of his he downplays or doesn’t include in his list of successes. Why? Especially if he worked so hard to make it?

the guy who screams "THE MARRIAGE IS NEVER COMING BACK" really doesn't sound like a guy that wants a story about married Spider-Man to be successful. He was also downplaying Ultimate Spider-Man because the premise was "married Spider-Man"

And I know it’s me because I was the one who noticed that Slott tried to turn the “vow” into “Renew Your Vows” into being a story about Peter’s “No-Kill” rule- which *clearly* isn’t how the story was advertised. He was trying to sabotage it, and it shows.

I also love in his claim he wasn’t rooting against RYV, he still undermines it. He dismisses its success as a new Spider-Man #1 which why it was a hit. Because obviously the marriage can’t have contributed to that. He can’t step away from the narrative, as hard as he tries.
