There also was mentions of a "grind", which is very much absent for me currently. I do not consider having to do story side quests and exploring to be a grind. But I also don't have to speedrun through the game to release a review on a tight schedule though, which might be a factor here...

I think game journalists and I have very different ideas of what "spongy" enemies are. For how common a criticism it is that Control Resonant has spongy enemies I have yet to encounter something I consider a damage sponge
