Douglas Adams has entered the chat. (Yes, from the afterlife.)
These tales of impending doom allowed the Golgafrinchans to rid themselves of an entire useless third of their population. The story was that they would build three Ark ships. Into the A ship would go all the leaders, scientists and other high achievers. The C ship would contain all the people who made things and did things, and the B Ark would hold everyone else, such as hairdressers and telephone sanitisers. They sent the B ship off first, but of course, the other two-thirds of the population stayed on the planet and lived full, rich and happy lives until they were all wiped out by a virulent disease contracted from a dirty telephone.

They left out that it also tastes distinctly of vinegar. I'm not sure I want to drink this stuff at all, ever again, never mind as some kind of amaretto substitute.
From their review:

"Woodnose's balanced option is not technically an amaretto—it’s made in Vermont from local maple syrup and aged in bourbon barrels, and it's vegan, organic, and gluten-free. using sustainably farmed ingredients. Yet, the rich drink has a lovely sweetness with roasted espresso notes and a salted caramel bitterness."

A very #Discworld morning.
A view of multilayered mountains, with rays of sun coming in from the south-east (happy solstice), appearing trapped behind the mountains in the foreground.

I figured I’d screen-shot this while I still could.

For the ignorant (such as moi)
"Sephiroth is a prominent antagonist in the Final Fantasy VII universe, known for his iconic status as a powerful and complex villain. He is a former SOLDIER, a prototype, and the strongest of his kind, but his descent into madness and his desire to become a god make him a formidable foe for Cloud Strife and his allies"

With the bit about "his descent into madness" highlighted.

. @scalzi.com's The Shattering Peace is humorous, is it?
Amazon lists The Shattering Peace as #2 in Humorous SF. (Also pictured: Annalee Newitz's Automatic Noodle (which does seem more appropriate) as #1).

Hard to read anything like that without thinking of Young Frankenstein.
A vintage door knocker, showing a man's face, cast in bronze, gripping a large bronze door knocker in his teeth. The man seems angry and has a dramatic mustache.

They exist! What’s weird is that when I took it in the ‘80s, they maxed out at 1600 then, too. So things have changed and then changed back, apparently.

Great read!
When people to pressured Guidobaldo to divorce his barren wife, he shocked Europe with an announcement no one thought a prince would dare make: It’s not her, it’s me, I’m impotent, shut up, & if anyone wants to question my manhood over it, my armies are right here, so bring it.

This still won't help people with screen readers, but for people on phones:
"THIS IS THE BODY" with at least thirty diacriticals on each letter, making it look *exceptionally* eldritch and weird.

The diacriticals extend above and below the text line, above Ray's name, account name, and profile picture, and well below the "2 reposts 229 likes" line.

This is how Terry Pratchett's Death might talk, or how "the voice" from Dune might sound, or how Cthulhu might've sounded, should He (It?) have deigned to speak to us.

People like to quote Psalm 109:8 for Trump (and other presidents), but *all* of Psalm 109 goes hard, man.
Palm 109:6-20, KJV

6 Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.

7 When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.

8 Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

9 Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.

10 Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.

11 Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.

12 Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.

13 Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the Lord; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

15 Let them be before the Lord continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.

16 Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.

17 As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.

18 As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.

19 Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.

20 Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the Lord, and of them that speak evil against my soul.
