This one's about dog DNA! I get asked what breed Wednesday is a lot. (I also misspell Germy Sheppahrerd a lot) #dog #dogcomic
Comic: titled Wednesday the Dog, showing a black pup with pointy ears and a long tail in a smooth coat, with a bit of white on the chest.

Text: when I originally posted Wednesday's photos on Instagram and invited people to guess what breed she was, a lot of people were very confident that she was some sort of Shepard.
Photos: three photos of the same dog - laying by a window, looking up from under a table, and sadly sitting outside in the rain wearing a Costco dog hoodie
Image: a doodle of chekhov wearing a red sweater, holding the dog in their arms. Both are looking up thoughtfully.
Text: and I guess I can understand that logic! If you don't know that I live in Japan, or if you're only familiar with western breeds, any dog shaped dog will look like the most popular one near you: for example, the German Shepard. But even though I'm familiar with them, she didn't look like a German Shep to me at all. So out of curiosity and for the sake of keeping tabs on her health... (a big arrow points to a handwritten message with DNA strands) we did a doggo DNA test! (Thank you to Brandy Saltzman for the coupon)
And the results are in! She's 100% mutt!
Image: chekhov holds up Wednesday simba-style. Wednesday seems happy, and her tongue bleps slightly.
Text: or more specifically, a Japanese/Korean Village Dog! It's not really a breed. It just means she's local!

Time heals all wounds and makes all puppies 200% less scared of things. #dogcomics #dog
Comic: The title shows a black dog with pointy ears in a green collar, wagging a long tail next to "Wednesday the dog".
The comic is split into right and left sides - the left reads "what we were worried about" and the right "1 month later"
The first image is a drawing of a puppy cowering in a crate. "She's so shy..." says someone off to the side. "She may never get fully used to people." Next to it is another image that shows her now: jumping up on the owner excitedly as they say "Hi! I've only been gone for 5 minutes!"
Another set shows the left image as the dog hiding behind the door, shaking. "She can't even convince herself to go out the door. Maybe walks are too much..." Right next to it is the dog in her harness on a walk. She is standing in a stream and shaking around a piece of something green violently. "Girl, you've killed the moss, good job," says the owner from off-screen. "Let's go home please..."
The last panel reads "What we should have worried about" and shows the dog chewing something eagerly while the owner grabs her and reaches into her mouth. "What's in your mouth!" yells the owner. "Don't chew faster, just give it to me!"

More Wednesday comics. She is good at climbing.
Image: a simply drawn comic titled "Wednesday the dog"
Panel 1: Text on top reads "What song is (probably) playing on loop in her head during walks" A black dog with pointy ears and a long tail wearing an orange harness pulls someone along on the leash. She has thought bubbles that read like lyrics: "Climb every mountaaaain~ Fooord every streeeeam~ Eat every bug, and follow every dream~"Image: a simply drawn comic panel. A black dog wearing an orange harness is at the top of a hill, looking down and her owner, who is down below, holding the leash in one hand and a poop bag in another. The owner says "okay, congrats, how are you getting down?" Image: a simply drawn comic panel. A black dog in an orange harness is still at the top of the hill, with the owner down below. The dog looks off to the side, clearly thinking about her predicament. Image: a simply drawn comic panel. The black dog sits down at the top of the hill, seemingly resigned to her fate and content to remain where she is.

I never posted any of these here! This comic is over a year old now, but still! #puppy #dogadoption #shelterdog
IMG: A simply drawn comic. TITLE: So we got a DOG.
Panel 1: two people - Chekhov, who's wearing a red sweater, and their partner, who's wearing a blue sweatshirt, standing next to a table with a brown crate between them. They're both looking at the crate in awe. There's a pair of eyes peeking out of the darkness of the crate itself.
"My partner and I recently moved, and have decided to adopt a pup! She's a rescue, about 5 months old. I've had dogs before, but she was incredibly distrustful of us and all people in general at first."
Panel 2: A crate covered in a grey towel. The door is open and a small black dog face peeks out nervously.
"With rescue dogs, there is something called the 3-3-3 rule for decompression: 3 days of hiding/adjusting. 3 weeks to get used to routine. 3 months to fully settle in. I trusted it, but it seemed unlikely that she would ever stop being such a careful and fearful dog. she was scared of us, of the leash, of doors..."IMG: a continuation of the comic "so we got a dog"
"She wasn't used to a leash and panicked when it was put on. She hid when we looked at her, and cowered when we touched her. On top of that, despite being a rather skinny puppy, she didn't seem all that food motivated. But she did eat, and she came out when we were far away enough."
Panel 1: a doodle of chekhov siting on the ground next to the open crate. The dog, barely visible, is cowering inside of it, watching nervously. Chekhov sets down a bowl of food, saying "I'm gonna leave this here."
But boy... the process works.
After 3 days, she began to explore more boldly, let us touch her (not picking up yet, but it's a start!) and even barked once!
Panel 2: A doodle of a black puppy with half-flopped ears, stretching into the longest possible dog, to sniff at something in the righthand corner labeled as "Unknown object (heater)". The back leg is lifted up off the ground, labeled "one leggy up for max sneak".
"We're about to have our hands full with training her, but it looks like despite my initial concerns, she'll settle in fine!"
Panel 3: A doodle of a black, lanky puppy. There is a white spot on its chest. It sits up, looking around with black eyes, and wags its tail. A bit of its tongue is sticking out. There are little wiggles coming out of its head, labeled 'yogurt senses'.
"So, with that in mind, I'd like to introduce you guys to the puppy who will probably spur many more comics yet to come!" Meet... Wednesday!

I had no time to make this look neat. Is that ironic?
A b&w comic. A person wakes up, looks at their phone in the dark. 7:00, drawn in red. They close their eyes. Wake up, look again. 7:21. The coffee maker turns on. The clock on the wall says 7:52. Its hands are red. The same person picks up the pot and pours a cup as more time passes on the clock.
The cup is set next to a muted tv. On it is a weather map, but instead of clouds and rain symbols, there are red alarm clocks and hourglasses. The TV unmutes: "...a fast time front coming in from the south as the trees are blooming even earlier this year," says the reporter. The screen shows a weekly forecast next. "And over the week, we have some fast time as the busy season at work kicks off, followed by a very slow Wednesday night when the results of the election are expected to come in over the course of two hours, which will feel more like six or even eight--" The TV mutes again. The person leans back in the kitchen chair and sips their coffee. There are no visible clocks.

Sometimes, you wake up and check your phone and it's 7, so you close your eyes. And then you check again and it's 7:20. That means time is fast today. Sometimes you check, and it's only 7:03. That's a Slow Time day. It's like time weather. Just depends on the day.

image: a simple doodle of senshi from dungeon meshi. the top shows him without his helmet, his face shaded and serious, his eyes darkened by furrowed brows. someone's doodled hands are comically holding his helmet above his head.
the next image is when the helmet is slammed down onto his noggin. suddenly the intense serious features are gone, and all you can see through the helmet is the nose, the mustache, and the googly eyes.

Growing up on the Ninth. .....ah, childhood. #thelockedtomb #gideontheninth
A digital manga-like comic: 'Growing up on the Ninth' A silhouette of a child comes running from afar towards a tired-looking woman with a buzz cut, wearing simple Ninth facepaint. She wipes her cheek and looks over as the child screams "AI-GEMMY-KNEE!" Gideon Nav rushes to her, grabbing her pant leg. She looks about seven years old, and her front tooth is prominently missing. "Ith 'appenedh!" she yells. "Zhe 'ooth fairy 'took my 'ooth!" Aiglemene quirks an eyebrow. "What are you on about, child? What tooth fairy?" she demands. Gideon pulls something out of her pocket, presenting it proudly. "Thee 'ook my 'ooth justh 'ike 'arrow thaid! And I go'th thome rockth in re'urn!" Aiglamene does not bother to look amused. "...That's not a--" she begins, before cutting herself off, and looking off in another direction thoughtfully. Her gaze strays to the raised balconies of Castle Drearburgh. Hiding between two of the banisters is a barely visible skull-faced little figure robed in black. The scene fades. The panels lapse, as though a bit of time has passed and we see a pair of booted feet in front of a door. The light from the inside illuminates a small figure. "My lady," Aiglamene greets. "Stealing milk teeth is not becoming of the scion of the ninth." Harrowhark is sitting on her knees on the floor, small bones in a semicircle before her, and something else clutched tightly in one tiny fist. She looks to be about six - hair cropped short, and her cloak shrugged off her shoulders. Her dark eyes are large as ever. "I did not steal them, Captain," she replies. "I bargained for their purchase through a metaphor. I am low on resources, and mother says we must use all available materials wisely." "The Reverend Mother and Reverend Father do not want you near Gideon, you know that," says Aiglamene. Harrow looks away."I am working with those parameters in mind," she says calmly. Aiglamene says nothing, looking a bit dampened, and then heaves a tired sigh.Seemingly defeated, Aiglamene looks down at Harrow again. "What are you planning to use them for, if I may ask?" she inquires. Harrow looks up at her, having not relaxed her fist once. "It is... classified," she says. A black bar cuts between this and the next panel. It reads: "Not That Much Later." Next thing we see is a hallway near the castle. Harrow is hiding behind an archway, her little face split into a grin of delight as she peers around it to look at her handiwork. "Stop hitting yourself, Griddle!" she jeers. "Stop hitting yourself!" In the forefront, Gideon wrestles with a skeleton approximately her own size. It has a knee up on her stomach, and is rearing back for a punch, while Gideon kicks her feet and tries to shove it off, her face twisted up in fury. "HRRAARGH!" she hollers. "NONAGETHIMUUUTHHH!!"

Oh yeah, I also did that thing I do and drew Gideon and Harrow as Pokemon trainers. Can anyone tell what that thing behind Harrow is? Hint: It's not a haunted toaster. 😂
A digital illustration of Gideon Nav from the Locked Tomb series as a pokemon trainer, drawn in a close approximate of Ken Sugimori's style. She is tall and muscled, her back to the viewer but looking back at you over her shoulder with a grin. Her skull face paint is minimal, and she has her typical aviator shades on. She also has slung a Honedge over her shoulder. It is longer than usual and has a dark Ninth House piece of cloth hanging from its pommel. A Cubone peeks out from behind her leg.A digital illustration of Harrowhark from the Locked Tomb series as a pokemon trainer, drawn in a close approximate of Ken Sugimori's style. She has her full skeletal garb, but the dark long skirt she wears splits at the hip and trails on the floor behind her, giving her legs more movement. She holds a pokeball in one hand, and in the other she seems to be summoning a Dukull. The Duskull has a little IX roman numeral on its skully forehead. Behind Harrow is another ghost Pokemon that resembles a shiny Phantump... but instead of a tree stump, its head resembles a steel vent, with eerie blue-green gas wafting out of it.

It's Necromancy Time. :) Fun fact: This was made for a video that is 90% done except I'm dragging my feet..... SOMEDAY! #thelockedtomb #gideontheninth
A digital triptych of the main types of Necromancy of the Locked Tomb series. The left side is Bone Magic with a darker grey background and a skeleton laid out in a fetal position. From below, an ashy brown hand with dark nails is reaching out to it. The center side depicts Flesh Magic. The background is a saturated red fading into a near magenta. Laid in the same position as the skeleton is a red figure, with muscles stretched across its limbs and ligaments coating the rest. Two hands surround it - one pulling up blood, and another a yellow liquid that looks like fat. The right side is Spirit Magic. The background is an electric blue. The figure, which is in the same pose as the last two, is featureless and blue-white. In the center of its chest is a hole. Its eyes are wide open, looking at the viewer. There is a hand just above the nape of its neck, which is drawing spiritual stringers from the ghost, as though puppetting it.

Harrow works hard, but Gideon and Pal work harder. (Proof in the following tweet... if you need it.)
A memelike image on a white background. Gideon Nav and Palamedes Sextus are both embracing Harrowhark, who hands limply between them, looking very small. Both of them are kissing the side of her head in tandem. The text reads: "WHEN YOU ARE GOD'S PERFECT KILLING MACHINE... BUT YOU ONLY WEIGH 8 LBS AND PEOPLE KEEP PICKING YOU UP AND KISSING YOU."

Harrow the Ninth is a comedy.
A comic labeled 'Things That Actually Happened'. John Gaius and Harrowhark sit together He faces her solemnly. "I had a body... and I needed a tomb," he says. "You might know of the body, Harrowhark." Harrow stares at him, the picture of innocence, nevermind the sweat on her brow. "And you will know far better of the tomb." Harrow glances to the side nervously, silent. Just behind John is a window to the space just outside the Mythraem. Standing beside the window, amid the curtains which are for some reason billowing, is a tall woman with wet, ropey hair. She has sunken cheeks and her soaked robes hang off her supple shoulders. She is perhaps, only a figment of Harrow's imagination. "Oh, the tomb that was to be shut forever!" Harrow says, sweating some more. "With the rock that was to be never rolled away! That what was within should remain buried! Insensate, with closed eye and stilled brain. Ah, yes, that tomb!" She is definitely very convincing.

Just like the other books, Nona was fucking hilarious. #nonatheninth #thelockedtomb
A Locked Tomb comic. In the first panel, Palamedes Sextus and Camilla Hect are looking on from afar as Gideon Nav holds Harrow bridal-style, rather tenderly, while they are both visibly yelling at each other in annoyance. Palamedes leans into Camilla and mutters 'I would like to put both of them in a jar and study them like bugs.' Camilla replies 'Yeah.'
A black bar below the panel reads: OVER A YEAR LATER...
The next panel is a meme-like image of Camilla with her arms crossed, looking disgruntled. She then throws up her hands in defeat and yells "I GUESS!"

That feeling when you read Harrow the Ninth.
A very skrunkly digital drawing of Harrowhark Nonagesimus, a near murder victim and utterly sleep deprived. Her exoskeleton makes her look extra spikey and her facepaint is smeared. Her hair is growing a big. She clutches a large pot of soup, looking over her shoulder nervously. The text above reads simply: SOUP.

Things that PROBABLY... I hope... happened back at the Canaan House. :) #thelockedtomb #gideonthenninth
A Gideon the Ninth Comic titled "THINGS I HOPE HAPPENED". Panel: Early morning in the Canaan House. A slightly run-down, open plan room in the breaks of early morning light. A figure stirs behind the bed canopy as birds screech over the ocean. Panel: Harrow, seen as a silhouette through the curtains, sits up and looks quietly at a key she and Gideon have acquired. Panel: Harrow steps into the bathroom to wash up. General sounds of an early morning ritual follow her. She summons a skeleton to wipe down the counter. All the while, Gideon sleeps. Panel: There's a soft click of a shoe heel as Harrow's booted foot draws closer. Panel: Gideon is sleeping.... semi peacefully, curled up in a blanket. Harrow's silhouette looms over her, a bit threateningly.Panel: "Griddle," Harrow snaps. "Get up." Gideon's eyes snap open. Panel: Instead of getting up, Gideon grumbles in reply: "You said 8 and a HALF." Panel: Harrow sets her hands on her hips, already annoyed. "The half was for putting on facepaint," she announces. Gideon has still not moved. "Are you. Fucking. Kidding me." she grinds out. Panel: "Griddle," Harrow says again, with even more emphasis, leaning closer. Gideon, meanwhile, pulls a pillow up over her head. "I bargained for 8 and a half. I'm going to use the 8 and a half." Panel: Harrow bristles, giving the Gideon lump in the blanket a solid kick. "Well after 18 years you should be able to do it in your sleep, but seeing as there's not enough wrinkles in your brain to withhold even that small byte of muscle memory--" "We're gonna be in the nerd apartment all day!" she retorts. "No one will even see me!!" "I'll see you!" hollers Harrow. "OKAY, BYE!" barks Gideon.A long, open panel. "For fuck's... that's IT!" yells the Harrow speech bubble. Through the implied sounds of a struggle, Gideon forces out "Hey... what are you-- Stop that!" She continues after a beat: "Nonagesimus! Nonmmpgh...!" "Can't believe I have to do everything myself..." complains Harrow. "That's what she sa--" Gideon manages, before Harrow barks "MOUTH SHUT OR I'LL PAINT YOUR TEETH TOO." The last image is of a skinny harrow in her garb, straddling Gideon's torso and forcing paint onto her face while multiple skeleton hands spring into being at strategic points by Gideon's ankles and wrists and form into arms to restrain her. The position is compromising and somewhat suggestive.

She is wreathed in light coming from the curtains behind her, and although her face paint is smeared and there is blood running from her nose, her eyes are dark and clear, and she looks rather beautiful. In one hand she holds a key, but Gideon seems to barely notice this.
"At the key, moron, not at me," Harrow snaps in annoyance, holding the key higher. Gideon flips her off, but there are hints of a blush underneath her sunglasses.

Gideon, honey, you are not being subtle about this. #thelockedtomb #gideontheninth
A Gideon the Ninth comic. Gideon Nav stands in a darkened hall, arms crossed and brooding about how much she "hates" Harrow. She's been pulled into this nerd contest against her will, and there's nothing to fight, and now the Reverend Daughter is ignoring her. Or at least Gideon thinks that - Harrow has been missing for over a day. Behind Gideon, Palamedes And Camilla kneel by the hatch, inspecting the clues. Palamedes looks at some blood between his fingers. "Intravenous blood," he says. "HER intravenous blood." Gideon starts and glances over. There is a moment of silence as the other two regard her...Gideon Nav throwing herself at the hatch with all she's got. She yanks on the handle so hard her wrists nearly pop.Gideon Nav throwing herself at the hatch with all she's got. She tries to pry it open from the side.Gideon Nav throwing herself at the hatch with all she's got. She clangs against it uselessly with the rapier as though it were a club. She is clearly panicked.

Aaaand here's some sketches of my first iterations of these characters. The Gideon ratatouille is still canon in my heart. #gideontheninth #thelockedtomb
A collection of sketches and headshots of Harrow Nonagesimus and Gideon Nav from The Locked Tomb series.
1) Gideon, a butch woman with a strong jawline and a bright smile finger-guns off to the side and exclaims "Hey, Titties!" cheerfully.
2) Harrow, thin and pointy with large dark eyes and even larger bags under them, steeples her begloved fingers together, lost deep in thought.
3) Gideon, winking over her shoulder, either flirting or teasing. You can see a strip of hair that's been shaved behind her ear and around to the back of her head. The nuns once tried to shave her head fully, but did not finish the job.
4) Harrowhark, sharp eyes narrowed, glaring, and heavily lined with what she hopes people will think is smeared eyeliner, though really it's the conglomeration of exhaustion and stress. She nakey, no facepaint.
5) Harrow perched on Gideon's shoulders, using Gideon's hair to steer her around, ratatouille style. Gideon is smiling vapidly.

Sometimes I get asked 'why do you avoid telling people what is going to happen in your comic?' and my answer is - Because keeping secrets is the key to my motivation. And it might be the key to yours too, even if you don't know it. So let me explain to you about the Emperor's New Project. (1/5)

Get in. It's time for The Locked Tomb fanart. First up, the very first thing I drew when I was about 3 chapters into Gideon the Ninth.
Gideon Nav and Harrowhark Nonagesimus from the Locked Tomb. Harrow is straddling Gideon, who is laying down, a la 'Makeup Lesbians' meme. In contrast to the original meme, Harrow is scowling angrily as she puts traditional face paint on Gideon. Gideon is similarly angry, flipping Harrow off from below, though she is not protesting her position.

Some Critical Role 3 fanart! That one creature from Molaesmyr that I still wish they would have fought. It was good though.... just seeing it from afar was enough. I need to get better at creature concepts!
A digital illustration of the monster from Critical Role's third campaign, Bells Hells, which was met during the episodes that takes place in Molaesmyr. It depicts the elk-monster which is seen on a black and white background, with broken trees framing it. Eerie black and reddish oozes drip from the trees' broken branches, which curl up like fingers. Between them stalks the elk creature - white of fur, with multiple hooved legs walking in chaotic tandem and two larger humanoid arms which drag on the ground behind it. Its antlers branch like a capillary system pulled from a body, each node ending on a swollen bud. It has no eyes nor nose nor mouth.

What's up, this year I learned to love drawing backgrounds through imitating the Steven Universe style.
A digital illustration done in the style of Steven Universe. A long bridge stretches out across the water, leading to a tall structure that looks like a skyscraper with twin waterfalls rushing down its front, to either side of the entrance. In the distance, towers spiral up and out of the water, each of them ending in a giant white fan. Sunk into the horizon is a huge yellow sun or a planet that is so enormous that it takes up nearly half of the sky. Bracketed by its light, figures can be seen crossing the bridge - two figures of Lapis Lazuli are just landing on the bridge. Up ahead, a smaller figure of a Sapphire and her Pearl are strolling towards the skyscraper.A digital illustration done in the style of Steven Universe. It's a dark indigo landscape with dark underlighting, as though next to a deep underwater in a thermal vent or at the top of a smoke choked volcano. Pillars of natural stone cough out plumes of smoke that further darken the atmosphere, but around these pillars are glass walkways and hubs reinforced with metal structures, as well as warp-ways. On the left, an open outlook can be seen, and on it are several Ruby silhouettes, leaning on the railing. Inside the glass hubs we see more figures, an important-looking gem and what appears to be an Amethyst guard behind her.A digital illustration done in the style of Steven Universe. Several stone bridges connecting rather decrepit platforms feature what appears to be a floating structure. In the background there is no land, only an endless sea of cloud layers. Above the thickest of it, there is a peek of red sky dotted with stars, along with two moons, between which hangs a distant sun. In the center of this sky is a larger silhouette of a large, derelict floating structure. Larger than an arena, moreso resembling a city, it hangs slightly off-center, and pieces of tis core are ripped apart. Observing all this from one of the closer stone bridges are the silhouettes of two gems, a Ruby and a taller, less obvious gem in a long dress.

I drew up this character while listening to the first episode of The Ravening War and then wore the :0 face during every subsequent episode thereafter.
A digital fanart of a fanmade character in the universe of Calorum, from the Ravening War/Crown of Candy. It is a mushroom person, with a large cap with gills that sits like a hat on their head. They wear a plain potato-bag brown robe, which is held up by a waist die, from which several potions hang. They balance a large stick with one hand and glare off to the side a bit distrustfully. The bottom left corner reads: Tina Pholio.
