I’m a few days late in starting Inktober as to be frank I forgot it was on. I’ll just see if I can catch up. Here’s Day 1: Apple. I started off with a normal sketch with a knackered old 0.5 Pilot pen but then I got bored and impatient and went mental with my brush pen. #inktober #sketching #art

Today's four random pieces of palaeoart: Karen Carr's Deinonychus and hypsilophodonts, Luis Rey's Amargasaurus, @emilyhiggs-art.bsky.social's Edmontosaurus, and Ely Kish's Stygimoloch!
Four tiny, yellow-green ornithopods drink from a pond in a flooded forest. Behind, a striped, scaly Deinonychus lurches out from the greenery behind. The smaller dinosaurs are framed by stark white and deep, earthy greenery, trapping them with the encroaching predator.A trio of Amargasaurus with pink, fleshy nostrils and jet-black neck spines display in a sandy desert. A quartet of tiny, zebra-striped ornithopods enter the frame from the right, while a tiny yellow-headed theropod walks towards the viewer. Several prominent footprints are strewn about the sand.A massive hadrosaur with a splotchy, lizard-like pattern of dappled brown, yellow, orange fading to a creamy white underside. It strides forth with imposing presence, mouth gaped as if letting forth a thunderous bellow. Its nose steams with moisture, and its eyes glow with white intensity. The deep, triangular tail is curved toward the viewer, partially filling the frame.A sickly-thin, pin-headed pachycephalosaur with light green skin dappled with black speckles walks through a conifer forest, framed by trunks, ferns, and vines. Its long, stiff tail sports a dazzling zig-zag pattern that virtually disappears against the earthy forest floor behind it.

Just caught up with Love and Be Loved, last week’s episode of Dark Matter. Genuinely one of the most melancholy, gentle, soul-calming hours of television. Absolute masterpiece.

Met an absolute hero yesterday. They have capybaras now at the Peak Wildlife Park. One of them (Marmalade, pic with the bowl) lives with the wallabies who are also incredibly chill and friendly. Seriously that enclosure is like a mental health retreat.

It’s genuinely infuriating how the pressure towards clickbaitiness has resulted in endless news articles burying the lede two or three paragraphs in.

It's important never to forget who is behind the camera of whatever you watch. It is impossible to ignore that so, so, so many videos on the internet are taken on phones in selfie mode, by people loudly talking to themselves.

The afternoon here in the UK when all this was unfolding on the news from America is etched into my soul. I still remember so clearly the conversations I had, getting texts from my sister, watching the footage over and over on the tv when I got home from school.

Might be naive but is it not possible for us to hold AI to Asimov’s three laws of robotics? 1) don’t harm humans or allow them to come to harm through inaction 2) Do as humans say 3) Look after yourself but not at the expense of the other two laws No idea what that looks like in practice, mind…

Getting a haircut as a slowly balding man is just torture. I DO NOT WANT TO HIDE THE BALD BITS. I DO NOT WANT A COMBOVER. Im fine with the bald bits, they are part of me, stop trying to give me options to hide them. Honestly I’m close to just buying a clipper.

Three panel comic. Panel 1: a horseshoe crab watches as a variety of prehistoric creatures swim towards an ethereal light. An ammonite calls back to the crab, “come on, horseshoe crab! We’re all evolving!” Panel 2: the horseshoe crab stays in position and replies, “nahh that’s crazy” Panel 3: the horseshoe crab is superimposed in front of a future premonition: a rather miserable-looking human slouched in the glow of a desktop computer. The horshoe crab swims away and says, “good luck tho”

Saw The Odyssey last night and that is one absolute beast of a film. Saw it on the full universe-sized 70mm IMAX which really did make me feel I was exploring seas and caves and temples and the sack of Troy. Immense film-making, a reverent, massive, propulsive song of myth for the 21st century.
