This is insane. Insane that it's happening. Insane that these good folks need to do it in the first place. And insane that no one in power is helping them one iota.

Very kind write-up in the Omaha Dispatch regarding our anniversary show this weekend.

Screen grab of story from Omaha Dispatch:
Three decades doing anything is quite an accomplishment. Thirty years as a music ensemble? That’s like 400 in dog – er, band – years. I’ve seen every VH1 “Behind the Music.” Many of them twice. I know what goes on, man.

But 30 years is what The Bishops, one of Omaha’s most widely-known wedding and party bands, will be celebrating Saturday (March 22) at the Slowdown in NoDo. “Dirty Thirty” is the theme, and the concert will also feature local favorites Rhythm Collective, Wingtips, the Linoma Mashers and DJ Stryker. The Bishops themselves started in the mid-'90s (no bio needed for that one, me caveman but me can do math good) with an emphasis on vintage ska and reggae. Over their 30 years together, tours and collaborations have included the English Beat, The Urge and The Wailers.

On Saturday, expect some ska and reggae mixed with music from all genres and most importantly, a damn good time.

Jim's 2 Cents: The Bishops! Local legends. Groundhog Prom, anyone? Again, legendary performances. Ska, reggae, fun. It's a simple recipe, and lots of people make it, but when The Bishops serve it up, it just tastes so much better – from originals to covers, as Sean said above, it's going to be a damn good time.

What: The Bishops 30th Anniversary Bash

When: 7 p.m., Saturday, March 22

Where: The Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St.

Tickets: $15 advance, $20 day-of-show

Web: theslowdown.com
