My instinct is no. The layers are tight and glued. So whilst direct and prolonged water exposion would fuck up the armour. I feel it would be decent in wet conditions.

Why do I equip my blood sea minotaurs with Hoplites type Bronze Armor & Aspis, when they are advanced enough for steel? Because they are primarily sea raiders. The Bronze Armor has two key advantages for them. 1) Corrosion resistance. 2) Faster to equip than most later armor types.

I do often include anachronistic armour styles, and this is a great example for how its done and makes logical sense, plus, looks great. BUUUUT, I do tend to advance the armour to "modern" (for whatever period) standards. For example, if I were to do a Greek style people in the middle ages -
